1949 - Dongjiang District, jurisdiction over Huiyang (region resident), Zengcheng, Zijin, Lianping, Heping, Lufeng, Boluo, Longmen, Heyuan, Longchuan, Haifeng, and 11 counties

In 1958, Huizhou was established as a county-level city, and in April, Huidong County was established.

In 1959, Huiyang Prefecture was abolished and merged into three prefectures: Foshan, Shaoguan and Shantou. Huizhou City was abolished and renamed Huizhou Town, which was placed under the jurisdiction of Huiyang County. Huidong County was merged into Huiyang County; Longmen County was merged into Zengcheng County

1963 - Huiyang Prefecture was restored, with jurisdiction over Huiyang, Boluo, Bao'an, Dongguan, Zengcheng, and Longmen counties

1964--Huizhou City (county level) was restored in October

1970--Huiyang District was changed to Huiyang District

In November 1975, Zengcheng County and Longmen County in Huiyang area were placed under the jurisdiction of Guangzhou City.
