What does it mean to be a savage?

The appellation of Na Man was first recorded in the Zhou Dynasty, that is, Chu people. Zhou people called themselves "Huaxia", so they called the people around China Dongyi, Nanman, Xirong and Beidi respectively to distinguish China, and the ethnic minorities living in southern China in the pre-Qin period were collectively called "Nanman". They have different names at different times.

In the Xia Dynasty, it was said that Huifeng Island, with Miao and San Miao, lived in harmony with foreigners and was naked.

In Shang Dynasty, there were: Yong, Pu, Shu, Kuai, Wei and Yue.

The Zhou Dynasty was called Nanman, Jingyue, Baiyue, Min, Yong, Baipu, Ba, Shu and Shu.

The ethnic composition of Nanman is relatively complex, which can be roughly divided into three major ethnic groups: Baiyue, Baipu and Bashu. Baiyue nationality is distributed in the vast area south of the Yangtze River, Baipu nationality is distributed in Hunan and Guizhou today, and Bashu nationality is distributed in Sichuan and Chongqing today. At present, most of the ethnic minorities in the south have evolved from the Naman nationality.

During the Spring and Autumn Period, Chu, who was born in Nanman, rose and invaded the Central Plains frequently. The people of China, led by Qi Huangong, Song Xianggong and Jin Wengong, rose up. Nan Man Chu rebelled against the Central Plains for more than 200 years, destroying countless countries, even Shandong Province was destroyed by it. Chu also immigrated to the north of Huaihe River, centering on Xuzhou, and established a colony that enslaved the people of the Central Plains.

During the Warring States Period, the State of Qin rose in the west of the Central Plains, eventually destroying the State of Chu, which represented the conquest of Jingchu barbarian civilization by Huaxia civilization in the Central Plains. During the Qin Dynasty, the people of the Central Plains did not exterminate the Chu people in order to achieve reunification, regardless of their previous grievances.

And the powerful old people of Chu not only refused to recognize the historical progress of reunifying China, but also thought about restoration, and even issued a declaration that "although there are three clans in Chu, Qin will die", openly saying that they would destroy the hard-won achievements of China's reunification. Represented by Xiang Yu, the powerful descendants of Chu restored Chu. In order to realize the long-term rule of Chu people and enslave the people in the Central Plains, Xiang Yu slaughtered the people in Guanzhong and Shandong, sealed kings everywhere, and maintained the division of China. In the end, the people of the East and the West United together and shared the same enemy, which eventually led to the collapse of the colonial power restored by Chu.

The aliens distributed in the southwest of China (now Yunnan and Guizhou) are collectively referred to as Southwest Yi. After Liu Bei died, he launched a rebellion against Shu, which was later put down by Zhuge Liang. The so-called Na Man also refers to the aliens in the south, and the Eastern Han Dynasty specifically refers to the aliens in the south of Jingzhou.

The largest one is called Wu Lingren, and there are other races such as Changsha people and Lingling people. The Nan Man mentioned in the Three Kingdoms is located in Yizhou, which is called Southwest Yi in history. In 223 AD, after Liu Bei's death, counties in southern Yizhou rebelled one after another. At that time, the increasingly powerful king Gao Ding also took part in the rebellion. However, after Zhuge Liang's expedition to Yunnan, the rebellion in southwest Yi had to be put down. In 233 AD, Liu Juan, the leader of Nanyi, rebelled again.
