Africa 2- Lesotho in my eyes

Tracy dictated/wrote.

On August 9th, our motorcade set off at 7: 00 a.m. and the destination was the Kingdom of Lesotho.

It is said that Lesotho is the largest country in the world, China, and the whole territory is completely surrounded by the South African Republic. Lesotho, meaning "Sesoto speaker", was once a European colony. On June 4th, it became independent from Britain. 1966+05438, with a population of less than 2 million, is a member of the Commonwealth.

The tour guide told us that about 79% people in Lesotho are HIV-positive, so our team decided not to stay in this country.

The garage arrived in the kingdom of Lesotho in more than half an hour. The entry procedure is simple. Without any inspection, everyone's passport was stamped with the entry stamp, and each car was released after paying 60 rand (RMB 30 yuan).

When you enter Lesotho, you can feel the gap with South Africa. The first feeling is that there are many people. Even the mountains are people, and the human landscape is not so beautiful. Slums are everywhere

There is little traffic on the road. People are basically transported by donkeys, blankets to keep out the cold and unicycles.

When some black people saw a motorcade passing by, they jumped up, left their feet on the ground, slapped their bellies, spread out their hands and shouted "Stop … Stop".

The capital of Lesotho is Maseru. When we passed there, we didn't feel that this was the capital, because we didn't see the tall and magnificent buildings and bustling streets. It may not pass through the downtown area, but the overall feeling is chaotic and the city appearance is irregular.

On the way, our motorcade was stopped by the police twice. Because the tour guide reminded us in advance, we were prepared before we were afraid. They checked everyone's passports and asked them where they came from. Why? Where are you going? Fortunately, I found no trouble.

After a four-hour drive, we crossed the kingdom of Lesotho to the other side of the border, stamped our exit stamp and re-entered South Africa.

Out of the kingdom of Lesotho, the scenery immediately became beautiful, and the mountains on both sides began to become rosy, and the colors of the mountains became stronger and stronger along the way.

After a light rain, the rocks are more colorful, and the mountains reflect golden light under the sunlight. I watched all the way, and I was wondering how God created such a beautiful scenery!

After about 1 hour, we arrived at the scenic Golden Gate National Park, where we are going to stop for the night.

I got out of the RV, stretched myself, exercised my muscles, took a breath of fresh air, and then looked around, and a natural colorful picture came into view.

There is no artificial carving, but it looks like someone sketched it with colored pens, and there is no sunset after the rain, but it looks like a mirage in the clouds, and I instantly melt into nature! The fatigue of the journey instantly drifted to the outside of the cloud nine.

In the evening, after a light rain, it began to hail. The outdoor temperature is 4 degrees Celsius, but the car is warm and comfortable. After dinner, we rested early, refreshed ourselves and started our journey tomorrow.

When I got up in the morning, last night's rain had a thin layer of ice, and the outdoor temperature was below zero, but this did not stop our team from moving on.

On August 10, we drove to an indigenous tribe called Basoto, where some old houses were preserved, all of which were trimmed original buildings, basically made of stone and grass.

In the tribal chief's room, a female commentator said humorously, "The chief can marry three wives, the first wife should be chosen by himself, the second wife should be chosen by the first wife, and the third wife should be chosen by the second wife, but these are all past customs." The commentator pointed to a cane and said seriously, "Only the chief has the right to own it, which is a sign of the chief's authority." .

We also witnessed the chief's crown, the clothes worn by the chief's wives, and the members of our group also put on the fur coats of the chief and the chief's wife to take pictures as a souvenir.

In order to show our welcome, the locals also heated the wine just made in the restaurant, and then let everyone take turns drinking it, dancing to exorcise ghosts and spirits and praying for us!

After the visit, our motorcade went to Durban on the west coast of the Indian Ocean. A 0/hour drive from Durban/Kloc, we stopped to visit the place where former South African black President nelson mandela was arrested when he was a black leader in his early years. An artistic portrait of Mandela made of metal bars has attracted the attention of tourists from all over the world, and people have come here to commemorate this famous figure who fought for civil rights for blacks all his life.

Today's last stop is Umm Hurali Beach National Park, which is located on the west coast of the Indian Ocean, north of Durban, with beautiful scenery and flocks of birds and animals, and stays here for two days.

Next stop-South Africa's east coast, along the Indian Ocean coastline of journey to the south. (To be continued)
