Why did Captain America falsify his military recruitment resume?

This is what Marvel Comics says:

Captain America Steve Rogers was born in Manhattan, New York, on July 4, 1917. He is a descendant of Irish immigrants and was originally an ordinary artist. Science student. He was born in a slum and was thin. During the war, he wanted to join the army and serve his country, but was rejected because of his physical condition, so he had to falsify his resume and join the US military. Later, he was selected to participate in the super soldier project experiment and injected with drugs to become a super soldier.
