Xianju County has jurisdiction over the township. In 1949, it became the jurisdiction of Jinyun. In 1956, Xigang Township was built. In 1958, it was changed to an administrative area. In 1961, a people's commune was built. In 1962, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Xianju County. In 1984, it was changed to Xigang Township. In 1992, it was withdrawn and expanded and merged with the original Chenling Township.
