Where is Pingchuan, Gansu?

Pingchuan District, Gansu Province is located in the north-central part of Baiyin City, in the middle of Gansu Province and in the upper reaches of the Yellow River.

Pingchuan terrain is generally characterized by high in southeast and low in northwest, and inclines from southeast to northwest. It belongs to continental seasonal climate, with drought and little rain. It is 9 1.5km long from east to west and 75km wide from north to south. From northwest to southeast, it is a long and narrow strip with stepped and multi-step topography. The Yellow River is the only human river in Pingchuan District and the main water source for life and production.

Pingchuan District in Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties belonged to Gu Yong Prefecture and was inhabited by Qiang Rong. From the Warring States to the end of Qin Dynasty, it was inhabited by Xiongnu. In the second year of the Yuan Dynasty (BC 127), the land in the south of Han Dynasty was owned by Hanbei County. In the 13th year of West Wei Wendi (548), it was renamed Huizhou. In the Northern Zhou Dynasty, Huizhou changed to Huining defense. In the early Song Dynasty, Huizhou was still being established.

Later, it belonged to Luxining County of Guyuan Prefecture, Jingyuan Wei's jurisdiction and Jingyuan County of Yuanchanggong. 1985 Pingchuan District was established in Baiyin City, and five townships and one town in Jingyuan County were placed under the jurisdiction of Pingchuan District. Hydrology and water conservancy

The Yellow River is the only river that flows through Pingchuan District. From Shuiquan Town to Yuehe River, until the wild horse village flows out of Pingchuan District, the total length is about 35 kilometers. The average annual flow of this river has reached 32.8 billion cubic meters, which is the main water source for residents and production activities in this area. In addition, Pingchuan District is rich in groundwater resources, with an annual exploitable capacity of 36 million cubic meters.

Xigelatan Reservoir in Pingchuan District is a key water source project with a storage capacity of 700,000 cubic meters, which takes into account the agricultural, domestic and ecological water use in the region, and undertakes the water supply task for some towns and villages in Hehe Town, huangqiao town and Gaowan Township of Jingyuan County.
