Pingchuan District, Gansu Province is located in the north-central part of Baiyin City, in the middle of Gansu Province and in the upper reaches of the Yellow River.

Pingchuan terrain is generally characterized by high in southeast and low in northwest, and inclines from southeast to northwest. It belongs to continental seasonal climate, with drought and little rain. It is 9 1.5km long from east to west and 75km wide from north to south.
