The relocation history of Shizigang

In the early 1970s, for the initial project of Danjiangkou Reservoir, nearly half of the immigrants in Shizigang Village moved to Deng County, which was the first time in the history of Shizigang Village. By 1973, more than 150 villagers had moved to nine major towns in Xichuan County. All the rest were relocated and resettled, and a new Shizigang village was established. At this point, the two migrations in the history of Shizigang came to an end.

In the 1990s, the specific resettlement plan of the Middle Route of South-to-North Water Transfer Project was determined, and all the people below the water level line of1.72m in Danjiangkou reservoir area were relocated to other resettlement sites. 162,000 people in more than a dozen townships in Xichuan County began to wait for relocation, and Shizigang Village was among them. This is the third relocation in the history of Shizigang Village and the longest one. More than 920 people from 250 households in the village will move to Wuyuan Town, Yuanyang County, Xinxiang City, thousands of miles away. While waiting for the relocation, the villagers' roads will not be overhauled, trees will not be planted and houses will not be built. In order to make the South-to-North Water Transfer Project start smoothly, the villagers silently offered everything in the mountains. The night before I left, I thought firecrackers were scattered in the mountains. It is the villagers who are going to the grave and are about to leave the land where their ancestors lived. The first villagers who left were busy saying goodbye to the villagers who came to see me off, while the children jumped up and down in the car, laughing and playing. Government workers finally began to count the number of people and determine the departure time. By the window, an old man was in tears. Firecrackers sounded to see the villagers off. Slowly, the bus started, carrying the first batch of immigrants to the end of the mountain. After the noise, the whole village was quiet again. For the villagers in Shizigang, from 1997, the government held a joint meeting to determine the relocation of immigrants, and now they have been waiting for 12 years.
