Shanghai Urban History Development Exhibition Hall is located in the Oriental Pearl Radio and Television Tower, which is an image display reflecting the changes of Shanghai's modern history, with an exhibition area of 10000 square meters.

The whole exhibition hall dates back to Huating. It consists of seven parts: city view, port opening, Shili foreign exchange, maritime tracking, architectural exposition and spring and autumn period of horses and chariots.

Among them, Han Ximeng's Embroidered Insect and Fish Book in the Ming Dynasty, Hou Tongzeng's Book Scroll, the gold-lettered scripture of Qibao Temple, the bronze cannon of General Zhenyuan, the relics of Chen Huacheng's resistance to Britain in modern times, the large amount of funds of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, the bronze lion in front of the former HSBC Bank, and the boundary markers of 1893 British and American concessions are all important cultural relics in the collection.

Shanghai Museum of History has long insisted on conducting academic investigation and research on Shanghai's local cultural relics history, local customs, human environment, urban changes and museum science, and has published a large number of works. Since 2002, Journal of Shanghai History Museum has been published. In 2007, Shanghai History Museum became the chairman of the Urban Museum Committee of the Chinese Museum Society. As a major member of the Professional Committee of Urban Museums of the International Exposition Association, Shanghai Museum of History actively cooperates with urban museums at home and abroad and contributes to the development of urban museums.
