Subei culture

Subei dialect is mainly Jianghuai Mandarin and Zhongyuan Mandarin.

The main bodies of Jianghuai Mandarin are Yangzhou, Taizhou, Yancheng, Huai 'an, Zhenjiang and Nantong (Yangzhou, Huai 'an and Zhenjiang are all famous historical and cultural cities in China), and Xuzhou City, Suqian City and Ganyu County of Lianyungang City belong to the Central Plains Mandarin District. During the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang forcibly moved hundreds of thousands of wealthy businessmen and civilians from Sujiahu area in the south of the Yangtze River to Yangzhou and Huai 'an (now 5 cities in Yanhuaitong, Yang Tai). History called "Hongwu drove away", but now most people in Yangzhou, Yancheng and Taizhou have clearly recorded the story of this family from Nagato, Suzhou.

A considerable number of immigrants from northern Jiangsu flooded into Shanghai in history, and now they have become an important part of Shanghai residents. Most of them came to Shanghai as refugees to escape the floods in their hometown. They mainly live in Zhabei District and Putuo District on the northwest edge of the city, and many people live in Yangpu District and Hongkou District in the northeast of the city, living with immigrants from Ningbo and other places. Among the immigrants from northern Jiangsu in Shanghai, there are some elites living in the upper class, such as Tan (chairman and general manager of Continental Bank) and Jincheng Bank (chairman and general manager).
