Baise Water Control Project is located in Youjiang reach of Yujiang River upstream of Baise City, China, and the dam site is 22km upstream of Baise City. It is a large-scale water control project with flood control as its main function and comprehensive utilization of power generation, irrigation, shipping and water supply. It is a large-scale water control project for harnessing and developing Yujiang River in the comprehensive utilization planning of Pearl River Basin. This project has been included in the Tenth Five-Year Plan of China, and it is one of the important landmark projects for the country to implement the western development. The completion of Baise Water Control Project has improved the flood control capacity of Nanning, the capital of Guangxi, from the once-in-20-year dike flood control to the combination of flood control and reservoir flood control dispatching, and also improved the flood control capacity of Baise, Tian Yang, Tiandong, Pingguo, Long 'an and other places along the Youjiang River to the once-in-50-year standard. The flood control capacity of Yongning, Hengxian, Guigang, Guiping and other cities and counties along the Yujiang River in the lower reaches of Nanning has been improved from 10 to the flood control standard of once every 20 years. According to the above flood control benefits, the project will protect 6,543,800 people and 72,800 hectares of cultivated land, and the average flood control benefit for many years will reach 775 million yuan (at the price level in 2000). At the same time, the downstream 9 cascade hydropower stations increased their electric energy by 367 MW·h in dry season.
