Why don't German shops open on Sundays?
Even if the store is closed, even the supermarket will be closed on Sunday, which is too inconvenient for our daily life! However, in German law, there are explanations and regulations on this point. If you want to change this rule, you have to appeal to a lawyer!
This law, which focuses on the business hours of shops, is called Landenschlussgesetz (literally translated as the law of closing shops, with a domineering name).
The first bill was implemented from 1900 10 10/month. 19 19 the new law introduced the provision of Sunday rest for the first time, stipulating that the business hours on weekdays can only be from 7 am to 7 pm at most.
The new revision of the store act includes three aspects of restricting the business hours of merchants:
Business is not allowed on Sundays and legal holidays.
Business hours are from 6 am to 8 pm from Monday to Saturday.
65438+February 24th If it is a working day, the working hours are from 6 am to 2 pm.
Since 2006, the legislative power of store opening hours has been transferred to the German federal states, allowing local governments to adjust their time according to their own conditions. So far, only Bayern has maintained the unified regulations of Germany in 2003, and has not formulated any laws of its own.
For Bayern, although more and more stores require to increase the frequency of opening doors on Sundays (currently, there are up to four Sundays a year). Because Sunday is a very important shopping day, especially online shopping, it is unfair if the physical store is closed. However, the government still believes that closing on Sundays and holidays is a policy that the government will not change and is recognized by the Constitution.
The German Federal Constitutional Court ruled that the region needs to prove that there are reasons and motives for letting citizens take to the streets on Sunday, and pure consumer demand is not enough! This is hard to prove.
Therefore, it is normal for shops in Germany not to open on Sunday, even if more people ask to open the door. After all, for the store, it needs to be adjusted from various aspects such as the supply of goods and the treatment of employees, and it also needs the cooperation of all parties.
In the face of strict laws in Germany, you must abide by the rules before you can apply them. This is Germany.
