Chao [Chao, pronounced]

I. Origin of surname:

Single origin: It originated from Youchao family, and came from Chao Fu in the period of Yaodi. Belong to take refuge in the name of ancestors and change their surnames to surnames.

The Chao family originally belonged to the northern Chao family, and settled in Jiangnan in the early Southern Song Dynasty. At present, the Chao family in Anqing is mostly of the same clan. Their ancestors lived in Hongdu, Jiangxi (now Nanchang, Jiangxi) and were originally Chao's.

According to legend, the ancestor of Chao was a hermit in the period of Emperor Yao, who lived in the mountains for a long time and was very wise. He leaned against a tree to nest and sleep. Later, he became famous for refusing to make way for Emperor Yao and was called Chao Fu. Their descendants take their ancestors' names as surnames and are called Youchao. Later, it was simplified to a single surname, Chao.

In the Southern Song Dynasty, members of the Chao clan in Hongdu, Jiangxi took refuge on the banks of the Yangtze River to avoid war, and changed their surnames to Chao and Chao respectively. Its initial migration to Anqing, Anhui Province was about the early years of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty. Like other Anqing immigrants, the starting point of migration left home from the waterway of Waxieba in the west of Jiangxi Province.

The ancestor of the Chao family in Anqing is good at making waves. He and his family crossed Poyang Lake and went straight down the Yangtze River. After crossing Yanqi Town, the river suddenly widened. Accompanied by the April breeze, the wooden mast sailboat gradually approached Wansongshan Mountain surrounded by white clouds outside Anqing West City. The weather is sunny, the spring is bright and the tide is good. I was moved when I saw the majestic old city gate from a distance. This move has made a great contribution to the development of the Chao family in Anqing for more than 700 years.

According to the genealogy of Huaichao family in Anhui, "In the early Ming Dynasty, good people moved to Anhui and saw Longshan, Haozhi of the Yangtze River and the sun of Nanling. They were full of gas and vulgar soil, so they were introduced as grandchildren and had a family."

The truth of Chao Dong's shift is far from poetic. At the end of Yuan Dynasty, Anqing, as a battleground for military strategists, fought bloody battles for 19 years. In the 24th year of Yuan Dynasty (A.D. 1363), Zhu Yuanzhang frequently fought bloody battles with the two armies of Chen Youliang, and the fertile land here was already deserted and overgrown with weeds. In this context, more than 100,000 Jiangxi immigrants took Waxieba as the migration port, left their homes and sought a way out in Anqing.

At present, the historical materials we can see describe Jiangxi immigrants roughly the same: First, most immigrants are single and unmarried young people, and occasionally brothers walk together; Second, before settling in Anqing, the immigration history was completely blank. According to the records of Chao's genealogy in Anhui, Chaoshan Chang had a genealogy when he moved abroad, but it was later destroyed by soldiers. With these two points, it is enough to explain the compulsory immigration. The ancestor of Chao family in Anqing is no exception. It's good that a person can find a foothold on the vast Yangtze River as soon as possible, squeezed in the hungry and cold immigrant team. How to choose your future home in leisure?

With the feelings of despair and hope, Chaoshan Chang stepped onto the strange land outside the Bagua Gate in Anqing step by step.

Chaoshan's diligence and wisdom are different. He came from Hongdufu and was an excellent jade craftsman in Hongdufu, which made Chaoshan Chang not only gain a firm foothold under Wansongshan Mountain, but also made a small fortune, married and had children, and established a family. Due to the long history, the identity of the "Jade Craftsman" in Chaoshan is just a guess, because his two sons are Zhuo Qiong and Zhuo Gong. How can a jade craftsman have such a rich imagination?

The second ancestors of Chao's family, Qiong and Gong, are also good. Elders "live in seclusion as rural scholars" and concentrate on business; Young people studied in western Sichuan and became officials. From then on, they lived far apart. And the descendants of Joan, that is, the three ancestors and four ancestors of Chao family, are even more "loyal and honest, and their career is Jia Xiaoyang". Since then, chaozhou people has thrived here and passed down from generation to generation.

With the concerted efforts of several generations of Qi Xin, by the middle of the Ming Dynasty, more and more Chaozhou clan houses were built around the second ancestor's old house, gradually forming a narrow lane. The surrounding residents used to call it "Jia Chao Lane". During this period, the business district outside Baguamen in Anqing, due to the prosperity of Anhui seaport pier, has been extended to the King Temple to the west and expanded into a bustling Ximenwai Street.

As a place name, Chaojiaxiang has lasted for about 200 years. By the forty-eighth year of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty (A.D. 17 10), Zhao Kangshu, the ninth ancestor of Zhao's family, had begun to compile the genealogy of Zhao's family in Anhui. In the preface, it had been written that "the mountain chief moved to Anhui from Waba and lived at the foot of Baiyun Mountain (Wansongshan Mountain), that is, it was now peaceful and its old name was Jia Chao Lane."

Why did Taiping Jing replace Chaojiaxiang? Taiping xingguo temple, referred to as Taiping Temple for short, was originally located at the foot of Song Wanshan outside the Zhengguan Gate in the west of the city. According to legend, it was built in the Xianhe period of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (326-334 AD). When Chao Shan Chang, Zhao's ancestor, moved his capital to Anqing, Taiping Temple had a history of nearly a thousand years. With Taiping Temple as its neighbor, Chaoshan people often built their first house in Anqing. While the Chao family developed slowly and eventually formed a lane, Taiping Temple also experienced two key periods: the reconstruction of the old system at the end of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty and the large-scale reconstruction in the following year. Over the past 200 years, with the attention of officials of past dynasties, Taiping Temple has successively built buildings such as Wanshou Pavilion, Ancient Building Hall, Wenshuyuan and Huazang Building. , initially formed the momentum of the great Zen forest. During these 200 years, Jia Chao Lane declined due to the continuous migration of Jia Chao's descendants, and was annexed due to the expansion of Taiping Temple. An old immigrant street quietly disappeared on the map of the old city. Taiping Temple, on the other hand, has continued its glory for 200 years. On the west side of Dong Si Temple, Baiyi Temple and Zhuxi Temple were built, becoming one of the four largest temples in Anqing. The old street in front of Taiping Temple is also called "Taiping Land", in which "land" means land boundary, which shows the scale and momentum of Taiping Temple in that year.

Two. Migration distribution:

Today, there are hipsters in Laofeng Town, Anqing City and Laoketou Sun Jiawei, Huaining County.

Three. County outlook:

Anhui County: Also known as ancient Anhui County and Yicheng, now Anqing City. Anqing has a long history and profound cultural heritage. It is a famous historical and cultural city in China. The Neolithic cultural sites, such as Xuejiagang and Zhangsidun, have witnessed the ancestors of Anqing thriving in this beautiful and rich land since ancient times. During the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, Anqing was the seat of ancient Anhui Province, which was called "Anhui" for short. In the seventeenth year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty (AD 1 147), Zhou Shude's Qing army was changed to Zhou Shuan's Qing army, hence the name "Anqing". Anqing City was founded in Jin Zhenyou for five years (A.D. 12 17), with a history of 800 years. Guo Pu, a poet in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, once called this place Yicheng, so Anqing was nicknamed Yicheng. From the 25th year of Qing Qianlong to the 26th year of the Republic of China (A.D. 1760 ~ 1938), Anqing has been the capital of Anhui Province and the political, economic and cultural center of the whole province, and it is one of the cities in China that accepted modern civilization earlier. In the 11th year of Xianfeng in Qing Dynasty (A.D. 186 1), the Anqing Inner Ordnance Institute founded by Zeng Guofan built the first steam engine and the first motorboat in China. During Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty, Chen Duxiu held a lecture in Anqing Library and founded Anhui Daily, which was the first attempt to raise the banner of "new culture". During the thirty-three to thirty-four years of Guangxu reign in Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1907 ~ 1908), Xu Xilin's School Patrol Uprising and Xiongpao Camp Uprising took place in Anqing, which successively fired the first shots of the Revolution of 1911 and the New Army Uprising. The first power plant, the first waterworks, the first telegraph office, the first telephone, the first government-run highway, the first airport, the first modern library, the first university and the first newspaper in Anhui Province were all born in Anqing. Anqing is known as "hometown of culture", "hometown of drama" and "holy land of Zen". This is the place where famous stories such as Peacock Flying Southeast, Daqiao Xiaoqiao, One Step Not Crossing the Red Cross and Liuchi Lane took place. It is the hometown of Tongcheng School, which has ruled China literary world for nearly 300 years. It is the cradle of the growth of Huiban represented by Cheng Changgeng, the originator of Beijing Opera. It is also the hometown of China New Culture Movement pioneer Chen Duxiu, Buddhist leader Zhao Puchu, Taoist leader Chen Yingning, "Father of Two Bombs" Deng Jiaxian, China "Father of Computers" Ci Yungui, "General Diplomat" * * *, "Acrobatic Queen" Xia Juhua, and popular novel master Zhang Henshui, who have influenced China and enjoyed a world-renowned reputation. Ancient Huizhou culture, Zen culture, opera culture and Tongcheng culture complement each other here, forming a unique local culture.

4. Family pedigree:

The Genealogy of Chao Family in Anhui Province was edited by Chao Kangshu (Qing Dynasty), and it was a woodcut movable type printed edition in the forty-eighth year of Qing Emperor Kangxi (A.D. 17 10). It is now in the Library of Anqing City, Anhui Province and the Jia Chao Ancestral Temple of Laofeng Town, Anqing City, Anhui Province.
