1. Prevent, stop and investigate illegal and criminal activities;

People's Police Law of the People's Republic of China Article 2 The tasks of the people's police are to safeguard national security, maintain public order, protect citizens' personal safety, personal freedom and legitimate property, protect public property, and prevent, stop and punish illegal and criminal activities.

(6) to manage special industries as stipulated by laws and regulations;
(7) to guard specific personnel specified by the state and guard important places and facilities;
(8) managing assemblies, processions and demonstrations;
(9) to manage household administration, nationality, entry and exit affairs and matters related to foreigners' residence and travel in China;
(1) maintaining public order in the border areas;
(11) to execute criminal punishment on criminals sentenced to criminal detention or deprivation of political rights;
(12) to supervise and manage the security protection of computer information systems;
(13) to guide and supervise the public security work of state organs, social organizations, enterprises and institutions and key construction projects, and to guide the public security prevention work of mass organizations such as public security committees;
(14) other duties as stipulated by laws and regulations.
