I was going to write this topic a few days ago. Unexpectedly, I didn't finish it and didn't save it. The computer automatically restarts in the middle of the night, and everything I wrote is gone. I am very discouraged. Considering that the results of the college entrance examination will be announced soon, it is better to simply write and let it go.

1. If you want to go abroad, where should the university study?

First choice: Beijing and Shanghai, which are the places that go abroad the most, are also the most convenient places to attend various overseas training courses (TOEFL and GRE). There are many people going abroad, with good atmosphere and rich information, encouraging each other. If you study in a university where you seldom go abroad, it is easy for you to get discouraged when you are preparing English abroad, which will affect your preparation and grades.

Besides Beijing and Shanghai, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Xi and other big cities can consider going abroad. As for whether we should stay in Fujian Province, such as Xiamen University and Fuzhou University, I personally think that as a Fujian native, our horizons and knowledge should be further broadened. If you want to go abroad, you'd better go to other provinces to experience it and prepare for further progress.

2. What kind of university should I apply for?

In China, except for a few so-called "prestigious schools" (Peking University, Tsinghua, Fudan University, Jiaotong University, etc. ), other universities are not much different in the eyes of Americans. If your grades are not enough to enter these "prestigious schools", it is better to apply for ordinary universities in Beijing and Shanghai to prepare for the road to going abroad. As long as you have a bachelor's degree (4 years), this is a basic requirement for going abroad. You know, there are thousands of universities in the United States, not all of them are famous, and students who graduate from unknown universities are worthless. They still go to the first-class universities in the United States to study for graduate students (doctoral masters). The so-called "heroes don't ask the source" is the truth.

The quality of the school is relative, and your quality determines whether you can go abroad.

3. What major should I apply for?

This matter is very important and should be divided into two parts: the rich vs the poor.

If you have money at home (for example, you can spend 500,000 yuan to go abroad for graduate study), then you can choose a popular major (which is also your interest direction), such as finance, accounting, management, actuarial science and so on. It is easy for these majors to go abroad, but it is difficult to get scholarships, as long as you have a good GPA (college average score >); 3.0/4.0 (more than 3.5 is often required), aiming at Mei Niu School; Ordinary schools only need 3.0), passed the TOEFL and GMAT (economic requirements), and have enough funds to ensure that they can apply for going abroad. The success rate is high.

If your family's financial resources are limited, that is to say, you can study abroad without money (this is my situation), then you should not only get good grades (GPA, GRE, TOEFL), but also consider professional issues. In this case, science and engineering should be considered when choosing a major. Science includes physics, chemistry, biology (biology is not recommended), and engineering includes electronic engineering, computer, civil engineering, architecture, bioengineering, automation, materials, machinery, chemical engineering and so on. When such science and engineering students apply for going abroad, they can directly apply for doctoral programs after graduation from university. It is easy to get a scholarship, and it is much easier to go abroad, but the competition is fierce.

4. How to plan for 4 years if you want to go abroad after entering the university?

From freshman year, you should use your spare time to prepare for the improvement of English (listening, speaking, reading and writing), prepare the vocabulary needed for TOEFL and GRE exams (there are various vocabulary manuals online, and you can also buy them in bookstores) to expand your English reading and language ability. At the same time, we should try our best to ensure that the scores of each science major are > 80 points, otherwise the hope of going abroad will become very small. The preparation of English ability should try to avoid low-level repetition. Without the breakthrough of methods and difficulties, we will always be unable to improve and will be discouraged. The internet is convenient, and there are a lot of audio-visual books on the internet. Only by discovering, accumulating and digesting can we improve. If you set your mind to it, you should plan that the stupid bird will fly first, so as to be prepared.

In my sophomore and junior years, I try to attend TOEFL and GRE training classes, and gain experience and improvement in these exams. At the same time, in learning, we should not only keep good grades, but also strive to participate in scientific research (science and engineering) and social practice (liberal arts, internship). On the one hand, we should improve our experience and ability, and also make a difference in applying for three letters of recommendation needed for going abroad in the future. More importantly, in these practical processes, we can find our own interests and specialties, choose the direction of future development, and lay a professional practical foundation experience.

At the same time, you should also consider what is worth writing on your resume: achievements, awards, research (or work) experience, articles (or activity organization ability) and so on.

Ability beyond grades can not be ignored, otherwise it will be considered a nerd, which is not good for applying for going abroad. To give people a feeling, you not only have good grades, but also have the ability to meet professional requirements, organizational skills, team spirit and language eloquence. You even have good quality requirements (some humanistic requirements) and a sense of giving back to society (I hope you will donate to the school in the future).

When these things are combined, they also have something to say when writing a personal statement. Only by writing something that really belongs to you, rather than imitating or copying the tricks played by others, can you write better and convincing content.

In the autumn of grade 4, you should basically finish TOEFL and GRE(GMAT) before June 1 1 and get satisfactory results (you can retake the exam if you don't do well, so you should prepare in advance). If you want to get the transcripts of the school in the past three years (in both Chinese and English, the school envelope is sealed and sealed), write your resume and personal statement, and prepare the application fee (every university needs the application fee, some don't, and very few), you can apply online (just do it yourself, there is no so-called intermediary, it is fraud).

In addition to the above contents, the contents will be added according to the problems and situations, and will be given in the form of supplement.

Supplement 1:

If you don't want to go to college in China, can you transfer to study abroad?

The answer is: yes, and it is easy, but there are conditions.

If you don't care about the quality of the school you want to study in, there are various universities waiting for you to study in America. However, the entry threshold is very low, but the threshold and requirements for graduation are not what gangsters can do.

If you want to transfer, you can't leave the requirement of English ability first. You'd better get a TOEFL score before you are ready to transfer. The average American university (not bad) requires a TOEFL score below 80. If it is lower, you can study abroad in time. I'm afraid your English ability is not enough to meet the requirements of class and homework. Many universities require TOEFL scores to exceed 90 or even higher.

In addition, as far as possible, universities that have completed one year (at most two years) in China should make transcripts and course briefs (introduction of contents and textbooks) in both Chinese and English, so that domestic credits can be transferred together, saving time and money (American university graduates can graduate as long as they have enough credits and professional requirements). When applying for transfer, you also need to prepare application essays, letters of recommendation, application fees and other requirements.

In general, it is difficult to get a scholarship when transferring to an American university. Even if there is, it is a drop in the bucket and can't meet the requirements of various expenses of universities. You can't work off campus during college (unless you go to a Chinese restaurant), but you can only work on campus for up to 20 hours a week), which is not enough to cover all kinds of expenses. If you can find an intern, you can work full-time in the summer.
