Pablo Neruda’s personal experience
Chilean poet. His real name is Neftali Ricardo Reyes Basso Alto. He was born in Parral City, central Chile, and died in Black Island (some say Santiago). He lost his mother in his early years and moved to the town of Temuco in southern Chile in 1906. His father was a road paving driver. He started writing when he was in high school in Temuco. In July 1917, an article titled "Passion and Perseverance" was published in Temuco's "Morning News" and signed by Neftali Reyes. This was the poet's first published work. Since then, he has continued to use different pen names to publish exercises in student publications in the capital and hometown. Since 1920, the pen name of Pablo Neruda has been officially used. In March 1921, he went to Santiago College of Education to study French. Soon, the poem "Festival Song" won first prize in a literary competition organized by the Chilean Student Federation. Since 1927, he has served in the diplomatic community and has successively served as the Chilean Consulate in Colombo (1928), Jakarta (1930), Singapore (1931), Buenos Aires (1933), Barcelona (1934), and Madrid (1935-1936). Consul or Consul General. While in Madrid, he hosted the Green Horse Poetry Magazine. The main poem of this period is "The Abode of the Earth". The first volume was published in 1933, reflecting "the loneliness of a foreigner transplanted to a violent and unfamiliar land." The second volume was published in 1935, and the colors were already brighter than before. In June 1936, the Spanish Civil War broke out. He stood firmly on the side of the Spanish people and participated in the battle to defend the Republic of France. In 1937, he published the poem "Spain in the Heart". Then he traveled between Paris and Latin America, calling on people of all countries to support the Spanish people's anti-fascist struggle. In March 1939, he was appointed as the consul in Paris specializing in Spanish immigration affairs. He spared no effort to rescue Japanese and Chinese soldiers in the concentration camps, bringing thousands of Spaniards to Latin America. The baptism of the anti-fascist war changed Neruda's poetic style. He took up the post of Consul General in Mexico City in August 1940, visited the United States, Guatemala, Panama, Colombia, Peru and other countries, and wrote many famous poems. During this period, the Second World War was raging, and the Soviet people were fighting bloody battles against Hitler's fascism. Neruda made speeches everywhere, calling on people to aid the Soviet people in their Patriotic War. "A Love Song for Stalingrad" and "A New Love Song for Stalingrad" are works from this period. In November 1943, Neruda returned to Santiago. Soon, he bought a villa in Heidao and began to write his most important poem "Man Song".
1945 was an unforgettable year in Neruda’s life: he was elected to Congress. In 1946, the Chilean Communist Party was declared an illegal organization, and a large number of Communists were thrown into prison. Neruda had to stop writing "Mange". His house was set on fire; he himself was wanted by the reactionary government and was forced to go underground, moving among the people and continuing to create. During this period, he completed the creation of two long poems, "Chronicles of 1948" and "Man Song".
In February 1949, he left Chile, went to the Soviet Union via Argentina, and went to Paris to attend the World Peace Conference. Since then, he has traveled to many countries in Europe, Asia, and the United States, actively participated in the movement to defend peace, and continued to write poetry. From 1951 to 1952, he temporarily lived in Italy, during which he visited China. In August 1952, the Chilean government revoked the wanted order against him, and the people welcomed his return with grand rallies and parades. After returning to China, he lived a relatively stable life for several years and completed "Ode to the Elements" (1954), "New Ode to the Elements" (1956) and "Ode to the Third Part" (1957). In 1957, he was elected president of the Chilean Writers Association.
In his later years
In September 1969, he accepted the nomination as the presidential candidate of the Chilean Communist Party. The campaign is just a tactic to bring the Awami League parties together. When the Popular Alliance recommended S. Allende Gosens as the Communist candidate, Neruda immediately withdrew from the race and supported Allende until he won the final victory. In April 1971, he was appointed ambassador to France by the Allende government. Neruda passed away on September 23, 1973.
