122 1 After the failure of the fifth Crusade in Egypt, the Teutonic Order once moved to Hungary (still retaining territory in the Middle East). Unexpectedly, in 1225, the Teutonic Order fell out with King Andrews II of Hungary and was deported. But God won't close one door, he will open another. In the north, the Polish principality of Mazovshe extended a calling hand to the knights.
2. The situation in Poland and Prussia
At that time, the situation in Poland was not better than Ross, but worse to some extent. Poland was divided into four principalities from the middle of12nd century, and the separatist situation formed at the beginning of13rd century was as follows:
Leschik I (a white man) ruled little Poland, holding the title of Grand Duke of Poland, but actually he was only a maharaja of the Principality of Krakow;
Conrad (Lezick's younger brother) occupied Mazovshe in the middle and northeast;
Wadyslaw (thin legs) occupied greater Poland in the west;
The descendants of Wadysaw II Jagiellonow split Silesia in the southwest.
In addition, in 1 18 1 year, the Grand Duke of western Pomerania (according to the coastal area between Pomerania, Oder River and Vistula River on the map) surrendered to the red-bearded German emperor Frederick I, and this land entered the territory of the Holy Roman Empire (according to the Principality of Pomerania). Only East Pomerania, including Gdansk, is left in Poland's seaport, but this area is also in a state of fragmentation.
In the land of Slavs west of Poland, adverse changes have also taken place. That is, in the 12th century, the marquis of Brandenburg was established, which became a fortress for Germany to move eastward. The Marquis of Brandenburg pushed eastward and gradually occupied the lower reaches of warta river and the areas along the Oder River. At the same time, the German immigrants in the occupied areas strengthened the Germanization of this area.
In northeastern Poland, polytheistic Prussians settled in the coastal area between the lower reaches of the Vistula River and the Niemann River (note: later Germans called this area East Prussia and East Pomerania West Prussia, expressing a tendency of the German nation). The Prussians have not yet established a unified country, and they are divided into nine tribes: Pomezania, Pogaizania, Varmia, Natania, Barchea, Sambia, Naderovia, Skalo Shoya and Achier Virge. Since the12nd century, the princes of Matsov have been attacking the Prussians and forcing them to pay tribute. 12 16, Konrad, the maharaja of Mazovshe, established a Prussian parish in Heno with the participation of Laisek, the maharaja of Krakow, and Henrik, the maharaja of Silesia, in an attempt to force the Prussians to accept Christianity. 1222 and 1223, Polish princes held two large-scale price discussions in Prutu with the support of the Pope. Prussians fought bravely, thwarted the attack of Polish princes one after another, and launched retaliatory counterattacks, constantly attacking villages and towns in Matsov Xie and East Pomerania, and even went deep into Ploc.
The Teutonic knights conquered Prussia.
Conrad, Archduke of Matsov, saw that he could not defeat the Prussians, just as Teutonic knights were driven out of Hungary. Conrad actually came up with a way to "control foreign countries with foreign countries" and entrusted the Teutonic Knights to occupy Prussia and make it submit to the Principality of Matsov. From 1226, knights in white and black crosses came to Poland one by one at Conrad's invitation, and they got the Heno region as a fief from Conrad. 1233, the Teutonic Order began its military action to conquer the Prussians. 1234, Pope Gregory IX issued an imperial edict declaring that conquered Prussia was the private property of the Knights. In April of l237, according to the wishes of many Roman emperors, the Teutonic Knights merged with the Knights of Sword to form a powerful Knights Kingdom (later the Knights of Sword were also commonly known as the Knights of Livonia).
The Crusaders' war against Prussia lasted for many years. The local residents fought back in despair, but the Crusaders occupied Prussian territory piece by piece and built defensive castles at the same time. Although the Prussians held many uprisings, they were all suppressed. 1260 or so, Pomezania, Bogezania, Varmia, Natania, Balcheya and Sambia in the west were conquered one after another. 1283, Naderovia, Skarovia and Acheville in the east were also conquered. Crusaders managed the occupied land. They forced local residents to engage in slavery, and at the same time introduced many German immigrants into newly established towns and villages, which led to the gradual Germanization of the whole region. By the end of 13 century, the Crusaders had consolidated their occupied areas in Prussia.
4. Knights and Poland parted ways
When the Knights entered Poland, they still had certain cooperative relations with Polish principalities. For example, on April 9th, 124 1 year, Archduke Henry II of Silesia organized five legions, half of which were Germans, and the 4th Legion was completely composed of the Teutonic Knights, under the command of the head of the Knights, Bobo de Ostenau. The princes who are familiar with Mongolian history all know the course of this battle, so I won't go into details here (please refer to the descriptions in related books, such as The History of Dorsang Mongolia).
The Knights Kingdom was supported by the Pope and the Kaiser, and gradually got rid of the leadership of Polish princes in the process of conquering Prussia. By the end of13rd century, the Crusaders showed a trend of linking with Brandenburg, constantly encroaching on Polish territory and sometimes interfering in Poland's internal affairs, striving to weaken Poland politically.
At the same time, Brandenburg is rising in western Poland. The Germans used the Polish civil war to occupy the territory of western Poland. In order to weaken each other in the civil war, the princes of Silesia in Poland asked the help of German princes, which opened the door for their eastward advancement. Paolisaw, the prince of Lignitz, turned to Archbishop magdeburg of Willy Brandt and gave him half of the land of Lubush, a Polish territory located in the middle reaches of the Oder River and the lower reaches of warta river. 1253, Archbishop magdeburg transferred this land to Marquis Brandenburg. Soon, Brandenburg occupied all the roads, Bush. This creates a wedge between West Pomerania and Great Poland, which creates conditions for further understanding of Poland.
