Yang Lan: Your education method has caused great controversy in both East and West. If you had to choose again, would you still educate your children like this?

Amy Chua: I really regret my education, but if I can do it again, I still believe that the traditional education in China is beneficial to children. "

Yang Lan: Are you confused about your own path?

Amy Chua: Sometimes I feel lonely. When I encounter difficulties in my daughter's education, I feel that there is no one around me to communicate with me. But I think, if you want to try something, you must put in, otherwise there will be no result. Just because you are working hard, you can't not devote yourself wholeheartedly. So today I will try my way and see the result.

Yang Lan: Ethnic minorities will work harder abroad than their own. Will they have survival anxiety?

Amy Chua: I totally agree. The inspirational story of Jews in the United States is the story of many China people who struggled in the United States like me.

I attach great importance to the formation of children's values. In America, many children will laugh at children with foreign accents. I told my children never to laugh at people with accents, because that is a sign of courage. Dare to come to a strange land and speak in another country's language is a sign of courage, which is exactly what many people ignore.

Yang Lan: In your book, you mentioned the problem of "being rich for three generations". How to treat the third generation of immigrant families?

Chua Meier: Generally, the third-generation immigrants will not worry about their survival, and it is easier for them to indulge themselves, give up their studies and spend freely. My two daughters, who grew up in very good material conditions, don't want to teach them to be selfish. They only care about the third generation who don't care about others. If selfishness can't make any contribution to society, their own lives and marriages will not be happy. Today, many parents in China are facing these problems. I think many parents in China should reflect on their children growing up in such an environment.

Yang Lan: How to treat children's happiness and success?

Amy Chua: Many people just misunderstand the rules I set for my daughter, but in fact, my book is to let parents give their children more space to pursue their interests and listen to their needs. If I had to choose between happiness and success, I would choose happiness, but the two must complement each other.

Yang Lan: What do you think of Bill Gates' success in dropping out of school?

Amy Chua: I will support my children to pursue their dreams. But this is only for college. I won't be in high school. When you are young, education is more severe and needs guidance. But Sophia will start college in September. I'm free and open about what major she wants to study and what she wants to study. Let her make her own choice. But I think before Bill Gates succeeds, he also needs to have enough knowledge and hard work, and he still worked hard at the beginning of his business.

Yang Lan: Do you think there is a certain reason why your book is so popular? Now the rise of China and India has challenged the position of the United States?

Amy Chua: Yes, there are many such concerns in American society now. There are also some voices in the United States that the basic education of American children is too simple compared with other countries, and parents in China have begun to pay attention to the free education model in the United States. I think this is one of the reasons why my book was published at this time.
