Kokang people live in northern Shan State, Myanmar, adjacent to Yunnan, China. The Kokang area belonged to Nanzhao State in the Tang Dynasty and Dali State in the Song Dynasty. The total number of ethnic minorities is only over 200,000, and more than 95% of them are Han nationality. The ancestors who first came to this land were a group of officers and men who followed Zhu Youlang, Emperor Li Yong of the Ming Dynasty and civilians persecuted by the Manchu government. Today, Kokang County is located in the northeast of Shan State, Myanmar, with an area of about 1 10,000 square kilometers and a population of about10.5 million. In recent years, the Kokang ethnic Chinese have been oppressed by the Burmese government, and Burmese troops have attacked the Kokang ethnic group from time to time.
