Introduction to Halifax

The capital of Nova Scotia, Canada, is the largest port city among the Atlantic coastal provinces. Located in the middle of the southeast coast of Nova Scotia Peninsula, it has an important strategic position and is known as the "Guardian of the North". Population 1 1.8 million, and the population of metropolitan area is about 330,000, accounting for about 1/3 of the total population of the province. British Scottish immigrants 1749 settled here. During World War II, Sri Lanka was once the gathering place and escort base of allied ships in the North Atlantic, and now it is the seat of Canadian Atlantic Fleet Command and an important naval base. The city is located on an island on the west side of the bay.

Canada's national railway takes this as the eastern terminal, and there are expressways leading to various places. There is an international airport in the east of the city. After the completion of the cross-sea bridge, Dartmouth on the east side of the bay developed rapidly and became an important industrial zone. Industry is mainly shipbuilding, oil refining, automobile assembly, sugar production and wood processing. There are many universities and colleges in the provincial cultural and educational center, among which Dalhousie University and St. Mary's University are famous institutions. There are many historical sites in the city, such as the old colonial castle (Halifax Castle) built in 1828.
