What is "local"?

Shanghai is an immigrant city. Many people came from Jiangsu and Zhejiang before liberation. Their descendants are not locals, even though they were born in Shanghai. Local people refer to their descendants who lived here hundreds of years ago. Most of these people now live in suburban counties such as Songjiang, Nanhui, Fengxian and Chongming. There is one in the old city box, too. Shanghai was founded only a few hundred years ago, and Songjiang was once its capital.
