After 10 days' organization, on February 23rd, 1000 more than one peasant association member gathered in Wang Jiagou to borrow grain from large households. Zheng Jianzhong led the people of Yuecun, carrying bags and dustpans, into one landlord's house after another, forcing the bully landlords to repay the fruits of farmers' labor. Since then, he has served as deputy secretary of Minnan County Committee, director of Minnan Office and county magistrate of Minnan Anti-Japanese Democratic Government, leading the people's armed struggle in this area.

1946, Chiang Kai-shek treacherously besieged our Central Plains troops. The Central Plains troops were ordered to break through the base areas in North China. Zheng Jianzhong and Cai, political commissar of Xinyang Northwest Office, went north together with the secretary. When passing through Anyang, he was arrested and imprisoned by the Kuomintang. He was rescued from prison.
