Legend of Hakka tofu

Legend has it that tofu originated in northern jiaozi. Due to the lack of wheat in Lingnan, homesick Hakka immigrants in the Central Plains used tofu instead of flour and stuffed meat into tofu, just like flour wrapped in meat stuffing. Because of its delicious taste, it has become a famous Hakka dish.

Legend has it that a long time ago, a Wuhua man and a Xingning man were sworn brothers. Once Wuhua man invited Xingning people to dinner, and the money was only enough to order a dish, so there was a contradiction when ordering. One wants to eat pork, the other wants to eat tofu, and it is about to fight. Fortunately, the clever restaurant owner came up with a way to kill two birds with one stone, adding pork to tofu to make fermented bean curd. It shows the wisdom and profound Hakka food culture of Hakka people.

This product is a traditional dish in Meizhou City (of which tofu in Wuhua County is the most famous) and other Hakka areas. It is usually used on holidays or when entertaining guests.
