In order to fulfill his father's last wish, Victor Navos, who can't speak English, came to the United States and happened to encounter civil strife in his own country. In an instant, Victor Navoski became an isolated man without a country and family, and he became a victim of international political changes. During his stay at the airport, Victor had only two choices: either to return to the motherland or to immigrate to the United States with valid documents. However, after the coup in his country, his certificate was not recognized by the American immigration authorities, and his certificate was obviously invalid. So he met the embarrassing situation of being refused entry but unable to return to China. Standing in this country that doesn't belong to him, Victor can't help but feel confused when he looks at strangers coming and going. In desperation, he can only stay at the airport, sleep in the chair in the hall, take a bath in the bathroom and make a living by serving passing passengers. All he has now is his illiberal body and a small suitcase, which contains a change of clothes, a razor, an invalid identification and a jar that he regards as a treasure.

In the process of waiting, interesting things happen again and again. In order to communicate with airport personnel, he taught himself English, and also worked as an interpreter for the airport, and gradually forged a deep friendship with airport cleaners Gupta Rajan, Enrique Cruz and airport security inspector Joe Mulroy. In their spare time, the three of them will sit together and gamble with the things left by airport passengers for a while. Victor also helped Enrique Cruz chase girls. During the conversation with Gupta Rajan, I know that he hurt the police in his own country and escaped. By chance, Victor meets the beautiful stewardess Amelia (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Amelia unconsciously fell in love with Victor and was puzzled by her thoughts. Victor started looking for a job in order to have dinner with Amelia, and gradually she fell in love with this exquisite and simple man. A good play of "a blessing in disguise is a blessing in disguise" was thus staged.

Nine months later, the war was over and peace was restored to his country. However, Frank Dixsaut, the airport director who has always regarded him as a thorn in his side, made things difficult for him on the grounds of exposing and handling three people close to Victor. In order not to cause trouble to his friends, Victor reluctantly agreed to take the last flight back to China. After his friends knew the truth, they supported and encouraged him in various ways. Victor finally entered new york and fulfilled his father's last wish. During this period, he made three good friends, and his kindness and persistence touched the airport staff and stores.
