Famous Figure 1: Zhang Guowei

Zhang Guowei (1595-1646), courtesy name Yuqi, was born in Dongyang, Zhejiang. He once served as governor of ten prefectures south of the Yangtze River in the late Ming Dynasty, and later served as minister of the Ministry of War. After the Qing soldiers entered the pass, they would rather die than surrender and sacrifice themselves for the country.

Zhang Guowei was an important political figure in the late Ming Dynasty. He was an outstanding water conservancy expert, the leader of the people in eastern Zhejiang against the Qing Dynasty, and a national hero highly praised by later generations. His life was full of suffering and his death was tragic and intense. Like other scholars, his ideal is to study, become an official, and make contributions to the country.

In the first year of Qi tomorrow (1621), Zhang Guowei took part in the Zhejiang Provincial Examination and ranked seventh in the province. The next year, he went to Beijing to take part in the joint examination and was ranked 12th in the second class. After becoming a Jinshi, he went back to his hometown to visit Xu Honggang, the former Minister of War in Nanjing who had served in his hometown. From morning to noon, Xu Honggang refused to come out. Zhang Guowei was not impatient and waited patiently.

It was not until evening that Xu Honggang came out to meet him. As soon as he met, he said: "I have been observing you for a long time. Some people say that you will be impatient if you wait for a long time, but you are not impatient; people who have not eaten at noon will be tired, and You are not tired. If you are not impatient, you can endure things, and if you are not tired, you can do things well."

Famous Figure 2: Shu Yuanyu

Shu Yuan. Yu (791-835): courtesy name Shengyuan. A native of Shanglu Quantang North. In the eighth year of Tang Yuanhe (813), he became a Jinshi. He is the author of "Shu Yuanyu Collection", his articles "Yi Zhu Di Li Shi Ming" and "Recording Paintings of Taoyuan" are included in "Selected Prose of the Tang Dynasty", and 6 of his poems are included in "The Complete Poems of the Tang Dynasty".

Famous Figure 3: Qiao Xingjian

Qiao Xingjian (1156-1241): courtesy name Shoupeng. A native of Qiao Zhai in Fengshan, he later lived in Qiao Zhaiyuan in the city. Learned from Lu Zuqian. In the fourth year of Song Shaoxi's reign (1193), he became a Jinshi. He successively served as the magistrate of Tongzhou, the magistrate of Jiaxing, the compiler, reviewer and lecturer of national history, and the minister of the Ministry of Industry. He is the author of "Collected Works of Kong Shan", "General Theory of Zhou Rites", and "A Posthumous Remarks for Chen Liang of Yongkang" are still in existence.

Ma Guangzu (about 1201-1270), courtesy name Huafu and alias Yuzhai, was born in Mazhai Town (west of the city) in Dongyang, Zhejiang during the Song Dynasty. In the second year of Baoqing (1226), he became a Jinshi and was awarded the title of "Xinyu Master". He has known Yuqian County, Chuzhou, Zhenjiang, Longxing Prefecture, Taiping Prefecture, Lin'an Prefecture, Jiankang Prefecture, Jiangling Prefecture, and the Minister of Household Affairs, the Proclamation Envoy of Western Zhejiang, the Appeasement Envoy of Jiangdong, the Bachelor of Baozhang Pavilion, the Bachelor of Ming Palace, Bachelor of Zizhengdian, etc.

Famous Figure 5: Zhao Songting

Zhao Songting (1924-2001), a master of flute. A native of Dongyang, Zhejiang. He is the author of "Frequency Calculation and Application of Transverse Flute", "Temperature and Accuracy Issues Between Instruments", "Flute Art Spring and Autumn", "Basic Tutorial on Flute Performance" and other works.
