Distribution of the Ruan clan in Shunde

1. Chen Liu became the brand commander of the people with the surname Ruan. In today's population ranking of Chinese surnames, the Ruan surname ranks 189th, and is most concentrated in Zhejiang, Fujian, Shandong, and Hubei provinces, accounting for more than half of the country's Ruan surname population.

2. The arrival of people with the surname Ruan in Guangdong probably began in the Song Dynasty. In the early years of the Southern Song Dynasty, Luo Gui organized a group of 97 Nanxiong Zhuji Lane people with 33 surnames to move south, including a member named Ruan Kerong. During the more than 150 years of existence in the Southern Song Dynasty, many groups of people from Nanxiong Zhuji Lane migrated south, and people with the Ruan surname also participated. Therefore, people with the Ruan surname are widely distributed in today's Pearl River Delta area.

3. The settlement of people with the Ruan surname in today’s Qingyuan City began in the late Southern Song Dynasty and has now grown to 13,900 people. They rank 58th among the population with the surname Ruan in the city. They are most concentrated in Qingcheng District, accounting for 10% of the total population in the city. There are more than 56 people with the Ruan surname, followed by Yingde (2,451 people) and Qingxin (2,150 people), with very few in other counties.
