Introduction to the film

Pocahontas is Disney's 33rd classic animation, which was released in 1995, and it is Disney's first long story animation adapted from real history.

The heroine of Romance in the Wind is an Indian An Gongzhu-Pocahontas. Her legendary life is a household name in the United States. Disney put the story of this Indian princess on the big screen, telling that she saved the British explorer John Smith and resolved an inter-ethnic war.

The film emphasizes the integration with nature and the respect among ethnic groups, and the ending also changes Disney's past tradition of happy reunion. Pocahontas chose to stay in his hometown and lead his people, while John Smith returned to England injured, leaving an unforgettable regret.

Under the leadership of the brave captain Zhuang Maisi, a group of pioneers from Britain arrived in the American continent, which sounded the alarm of the beautiful Indian princess Pocahontas and her people and began a story based on laughter, love and loyalty.

The lovely raccoon rice cake and Bee Island Feili happily shuttled between them: Pocahontas was faced with a life-changing decision and had to avoid the conflict between the two armies. With the help of the wise mother-in-law Liu, she learned to listen to her inner voice and follow the colors in the wind to pursue the true meaning of life.

but all the details in the film are fictitious.

The heroine's model presents the oriental beauty in American aesthetic standards: big black eyes, rose petals-like lips, long black hair floating in the wind, a strong figure with looming muscles, and those slender * * *.

The film not only processes the image of the protagonist, but also processes every aspect of the story. For example, the Indian who was invaded was a good person, and the British invaders were naturally bad people.

among the good guys, there is a bad temper, and among the bad guys, there is also a person whose conscience has turned back.

Good people represent fashionable ideas such as "protecting nature and animals", while bad people represent the disadvantages of primitive accumulation of capital's unscrupulous exploitation of resources.

Two rival camps produce a pair of lovers mysteriously. They use love to fight against the stubborn elements in their own camp.

The film is too moralistic, the mode lacks innovation, and the songs are also awkward.

A sequel was released in 1998, with the subtitle A Journey to London.

The real history of Pocahontas

Let's go through time tunnel to review the story of this legendary figure in American history:

pocahontas's real name is Matoaka, and pocahontas is actually her nickname, which means "playful" and "naughty".

She is a favorite daughter of Powhatan (Powhatan, Pocahontas's father in the film), and powhatan is an important chief of Algonquian Indians (powhatan people) living in Virginia, USA.

When pocahontas was only 1 years old, her life was changed forever.

British colonists crossed the ocean, planted the British flag in Virginia, and named their new colony Jamestown after the British king.

The foreign colonists are different from the aborigines in appearance and behavior.

The local powhatan tribes are naturally suspicious of this, and some people are afraid or even hate these strangers who are different from themselves in appearance and costume.

But this chieftain's daughter is curious and friendly to know about the new immigrants. Her gentle nature and natural curiosity are loved and trusted by the British.

Captain John Smith, the colonial leader, points out that her appearance, wisdom and friendly personality are "far superior to other powhatan people."

However, not all powhatan people are like pocahontas. In November 167, Smith was arrested and imprisoned in the village of Werowooco, the capital of Sheikh powhatan.

In Smith's later biographies, pocahontas is most praised for saving his life. It is said that she stood between Smith and the executioner regardless of her own safety and persuaded her father to release him.

But this is just one of many incidents in which pocahontas helped her British friends. She often brought food and gifts to colonial residents. In 168, when she was only 12 years old, the colonists agreed to release powhatan prisoners after coordination.

In the next two years, she kept going back and forth between her father and her people, and devoted herself to protecting the colonists.

But despite her best efforts, the tension between powhatan people and the British people keeps escalating, because the aborigines are fed up with the British people's continuous seizure of their land.

finally, the two sides went to war and started a five-year conflict.

In 1613, pocahontas was imprisoned by the British. The British believed that her father would redeem his daughter and end the war, but powhatan did not pay, which made pocahontas be held hostage for a year.

This was my father's belief that the British would not mistreat his daughter, which was exactly the case. During his imprisonment, pocahontas was treated with courtesy and was deeply loved and respected by the colonists.

It was during this period that the colonists persuaded her to convert to Christianity, so she was baptized and changed her name to Rebecca.

in April 1614, pocahontas married John Rolfe, a Jamestown colonist (that is, Luo Qiang 'en in "Frozen in the Wind 2: A Journey to London"), and they got married in Jamestown church. A year later, they even had a son named Thomas Rolfe (from which Thomas in the film was born).

The British side hopes that this marriage will help to end the war between powhatan and the colonists, and her conversion will help to persuade the remaining ethnic groups to convert to Christianity together.

in 1616, they took their son back to England by boat.

In Britain, they were invited to an unusual masked ball, and the host of the ball was King James I (King Zhan Mu I in the film) and the queen (a similar plot was applied to "Pocahontas 2: A Journey to London").

pocahontas was lucky to meet Captain Smith again during his stay in England, and it was seven years since they last met.

But just as she was about to leave for Virginia, she was seriously ill.

Before she died, instead of being sad, she comforted her husband and said, "All people are going to die, as long as the children are alive.

"She died in March 1617, but her life was short (she died of pneumonia at the age of 22) and was buried in the Church of saint george in Gwensen, England.

Friends and family members living in two "worlds" are deeply saddened, and her early death in Britain also means the loss of the opportunity for lasting peace between powhatan people and the colonies.
