Medical knowledge of immigrating to Australia

There are still so many differences between domestic and foreign operations. I want to share it with you, hoping to help more Australian immigrants. The day before the operation

The hospital first calls to confirm that you can go for surgery, and then reminds you of some precautions, such as:

1. You must bring the consent form for the operation; 2. Must fast for 6 hours before operation; 3. Must arrive at the hospital at the appointed time, etc.

On the day of the operation

1. check-in: report to the hospital reception desk with a letter from the hospital, and the front desk staff will tell you where to prepare. If you can go home the next day after surgery, then you usually go to the day surgery department. If you need to be hospitalized after the operation, go to the ward.

2. Preparation: (1) After you arrive at the preparation site, the nurse will give you some basic physical examinations, including measuring your blood pressure, heartbeat, breathing times, weight, height, allergic status, medical history, last urination time, etc. (2) Then the nurse will let you change clothes; Both men and women were asked to take off all their underwear and put on surgical gowns. (3) Then the nurse will put a bracelet on your wrist or ankle with your name, birthday and hospital number on it. Please be sure to check your name and birthday at this time, and then lie in bed waiting to be pushed into the operating room.

It's your turn to have surgery: when you are called to prepare for surgery, you will be pushed to another waiting place, waiting for the bay. Usually, the previous patient is about to come out of the operating room, which will let you into the waiting room.

The nurse or anesthesiologist here will ask you some questions about the preoperative examination. These questions include: (1) identification: including your birthday, hospital ID number and allergic history. (2) Confirm your fasting time: Generally, it is very important not to eat or drink water for 6 hours before operation. Even a sip of water will delay the operation and cause unnecessary waiting. (3) Make sure that you know what surgery to do: If the patient is responsible for keeping the consent form for surgery, please take it with you and confirm that it is the surgery you want to do; Especially those operations involving eyes, arms, legs and other left and right sides, please be sure to determine your own surgical position. (4) Confirm your medication status: Some anesthesiologists will prescribe some painkillers, drugs to relax you or drugs to prevent stomach acid in advance. Please tell the nurse if you have already eaten. (5) Confirm the condition of your teeth: If the anesthesiologist wants to give you general anesthesia, insert a breathing tube, and the laryngoscope used at this time may cause damage to your teeth; Please tell the nurse if you have false teeth, loose teeth, filled teeth, porcelain teeth, big gold teeth, etc. (6) Make sure not to bring any jewelry: including metal ornaments on body parts. If there is, the nurse will cover it with tape; Only outside, it is best not to wear contact lenses. (7) Make sure you don't have makeup: women can't wear makeup or false eyelashes at this time; If you do eyelash stretching, there is no way. In addition, you can't apply nail polish or fake nails to your hands and feet at this time, because you need your fingers to detect the blood oxygen content.

In addition, it is worth noting: (1) If anyone wears a pacemaker, please be sure to inform the anesthesiologist. (2) If you have asthma, please take the required respiratory medicine, such as Vantorin. (3) If you have diabetes, the nurse needs to know whether your symptoms are type I or type II, how often to check, whether to use insulin, etc. Generally, it will be checked once before operation and again after operation. (4) If you have taken photos before surgery, including X-rays and CT scans, please bring them with you. Some operations will send you home directly because there is no film. (5) If you take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, the hospital will usually let you stop taking the drug about a week in advance; Patients taking warfarin or dexamethasone also need to ask the doctor in advance when they need to stop taking the drug and when to start recovery before surgery; Some anesthesiologists will let you take antihypertensive drugs, so please ask the doctor in advance; If you take hypoglycemic drugs, the hospital will generally ask you not to take them before surgery, because you have to fast anyway. Remember, these should be clearly communicated with the doctor!

If the operation takes a long time, the nurse will make you put on a pair of tight socks. You just need to flatten your socks and make sure they are not embedded in the meat.

4. Enter the operating room:

After being pushed into the operating room, the nurse put an intravenous needle on your arm and put on an oxygen mask.

Then, you will fall asleep slowly under the anesthesia needle, and the operation will officially begin ... I wish you all the best!
