Southwest Petroleum University, a world-class discipline construction university located in Chengdu, Sichuan, is the intellectual guarantee for the great development of natural gas in Sichuan Basin and provides strong intellectual support. Petroleum and natural gas engineering of Southwest Petroleum University is one of the only five A+ disciplines in the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education of Sichuan Province and even the whole southwest region.

As a kind of clean energy, natural gas plays an increasingly important role in the energy system. With the peak of carbon dioxide emission and the deepening of carbon neutrality, the gap of natural gas in China is getting bigger and bigger, and the natural gas exploration in Sichuan and Chongqing needs to be accelerated urgently!

The total natural gas resources in Sichuan Basin reached 38.84 trillion cubic meters, ranking first in China. On February 23rd, 2003, a blowout accident occurred in Luojiazhai, Gao Qiao Town, Kaixian County, Chongqing, which shocked the world. Natural gas rich in hydrogen sulfide is violently sprayed out of the ground, and the out-of-control toxic gas quickly spreads around with the air, causing huge loss of life and property.

243 people died of hydrogen sulfide poisoning and 2 142 people were hospitalized for hydrogen sulfide poisoning. Ma Fucai, general manager of PetroChina, resigned.

Safety is more important than Mount Tai!
