Dai Sicong’s contract dispute

Dai Sicong immigrated to Hong Kong from the mainland in the 1960s and sang behind the scenes at Shaw Brothers. He later studied in Japan and became a singing teacher after returning to Hong Kong. His first student was Zhang Mingmin. In the 1980s and 1990s, he cultivated many superstars in the music scene, including Lai Lai, Aaron Kwok, Andy Lau and Faye Wong, etc. He was also known as the "Godfather of the Hong Kong Music Scene". Dai Sicong emphasized that his relationship with his students was as close as that of a father and son, but he was involved in several contract disputes related to singers. Among them, Chen Xiaodong and Zheng Jiaying fell out with him over contracts and commission issues. It was rumored that Chen Xiaodong asked for an early termination of the contract and was charged 10 million yuan. Dai Sicong denied the termination fee and called Chen Xiaodong a "rebellious boy". He even held a press conference to announce the severance of the relationship with Chen Xiaodong. As for Zheng Jiaying, she was "exiled" to Taiwan by Dai Sicong. Later, Zheng Jiaying returned to Hong Kong and worked her way out at TVB. Dai Sicong immediately asked Zheng Jiaying to fulfill her contract. When the incident escalated, Dai Sicong claimed to end the incident to calm the matter. Dai Sicong sued the magazine for defamation due to negative reports, and claimed that he suffered from depression due to emotional distress. Since then, he has rarely appeared in public.
