Can humans invent the elixir of life in the future?
This is a too big question. Perhaps, as a primary school student like me, I still cannot answer the question, so I will only express my own naive opinions here...
Since humans have ideas, people have been pursuing immortality. Qin Shihuang had already sent envoys to look for the immortals on Penglai Island to seek the elixir of immortality. But he didn't succeed, and like everyone else, he died in the end. After that, many emperors looked for the elixir of life, but all failed.
I think if people really could live forever, it would do more harm than good. First, let’s talk about profit. If people can live forever, the cost of people's learning will be reduced, and they will not have to start from scratch from generation to generation like now. The time to learn new knowledge will be greatly increased, and they can invent better things. New civilizations can also be established on planets that take thousands of light years to reach, allowing humans to venture into farther places.
Let’s talk about the cons. If people could live forever, the ecological balance would be destroyed and many residents would be forced to immigrate to other planets. Immortality means that the population on earth will only increase. Men and women will get married and give birth to children, but they will never die. The population will increase, and there will be more and more mouths to eat. Although technological civilization is improving rapidly, without basic resources, what will we eat and drink? The Earth can accommodate up to 8 billion humans. Even if deserts, oceans, and wilderness are conquered, there will only be tens of billions. Although this number is very scary now, if people live forever and the population only increases, then the total population must be very large. Break through this number soon. At that time, only manned people will be able to live on alien planets. But any planet has a certain lifespan, and the sun is no exception. At some point, the sun will explode into dust. Even if there is an artificial sun, even if a planet suitable for habitation is found, will there be as many resources as on the earth? Moreover, resources are decreasing day by day, and the crime rate is definitely increasing day by day. It is not only robbing for money, but also robbing for food and water. These things are beyond the control of the police station.
On the other hand, people may think: Since life will not disappear naturally, why should we fight for it? Originally, every day was aimed at doing more things in one's lifetime, but now that there is no death, people may become lazier and unwilling to do anything. If they rely on current civilization to survive, humans will eventually starve to death. , thirsty to death, fat to death. These deaths are much more painful than natural deaths. Therefore, I am against immortality. If any students have other opinions, please point them out, thank you.
