7. In addition to the application materials in Items 1 and 2, active servicemen should also submit their identity certificates and photocopies, as well as the opinions issued by the competent department of military system with the power of examination and approval to apply for ordinary passports;

8. In addition to the application materials in Items 1, 2, 3 and 4, the original ordinary passport and its photocopy should be submitted for renewal. If a China citizen who has settled abroad returns to China for a short period of time to apply for the renewal of an ordinary passport, he/she must also submit a valid certificate of settlement abroad and a temporary residence certificate issued by the public security organ in his/her temporary residence;

Legal basis: Article 4 of the Administrative Measures for the Issuance of Ordinary Passports and Entry-Exit Passes of the People's Republic of China

When a citizen applies for an ordinary passport, he/she shall submit it to the entry-exit administration department of the public security organ of the local people's government at or above the county level where his/her domicile is located, and submit the following authentic and valid materials:

(1) A recent bareheaded photo and a completed Application Form for China Citizens to Go Abroad (for Private Purposes)

(2) Resident identity card and household registration book and their photocopies; During the collection, renewal and replacement of resident identity cards, temporary resident identity cards, household registration books and copies thereof may be submitted.

(3) A citizen under the age of 16 shall be accompanied by his guardian, and shall submit the opinion issued by his guardian agreeing to leave the country, the guardian's resident identity card or household registration book, passport and a copy.

(4) State functionaries shall, in accordance with relevant regulations, submit certificates of consent to leave the country issued by their work units or superior competent units after examination and approval in accordance with personnel management authority.

(5) other materials required by the exit-entry administration of the public security organ of the local people's government at the provincial level after being approved by the exit-entry administration of the Ministry of Public Security.
