Why did Mencius say, "If Wang knew this, people would be more hopeless than their neighbors"?

My Motherland records an intriguing dialogue between Mencius and Liang. This conversation was caused by Liang Dui's "suspicion". Liang believes that he has been "dedicated" to the governance of the country. His "dedication" is reflected in "Hanoi is fierce, so he immigrated to Hedong and lost his life in Hanoi; Hedong is also fierce. " Although the politics of neighboring countries are not as "concerned" as he is, he is greatly disappointed with the result: "There are no more people in neighboring countries, and there are not many people in my country."

Liang was ambitious, and the measures he took were to increase the number of soldiers and enhance the combat effectiveness of the army in order to achieve his political goal of winning the world.

Mencius knew him very well and soon said, "Wang is belligerent." He hit the nail on the head and exposed Liang's so-called "immigration" lie. "Please use the metaphor of war", Mencius did not directly answer the reason why Liang was "not many people", but used the metaphor of war that Liang was familiar with. Obviously, the metaphor of the story "pot calling the kettle black" set by Mencius is very rich in connotation. This is not only a trap deliberately set by Mencius, but also a special meaning. In other words, there is no essential difference between Liang's so-called "dedication" and "neighboring politics", but only the difference in form and quantity. This also implies the root cause of "not many people". It is inevitable that there are more hopeless people than neighboring countries.
