How long is the history of Pinggu in Beijing?

According to historical documents, Pinggu has a history of 2200 years. Relevant historians believe that Pinggu is one of the two earliest districts and counties in Beijing.

It is believed that the names of districts and counties in Beijing can be tested in historical documents, which began in Qin and Han Dynasties. In the early years of the Western Han Dynasty (BC 195), Liu Bang, Emperor Gaozu, established Pinggu County in March to fight against the Huns and consolidate the north. At that time, it belonged to Yuyang County, which is located in the south of Xiaobeiguan Village, Shandong Zhuang Town, Pinggu District. During the period, the counties merged and the territory changed, but only Pinggu and Changping still used the old names of Qin and Han Dynasties.

According to History of Han Geography, Pinggu County is one of the 12 genera of Yuyang County, and Changping County is one of the 15 counties of Shanggu County, but the book does not clearly record the initial years of these two counties. After studying the calendar of the early Han Dynasty, Xian Qin of the Institute of History of China Academy of Social Sciences thinks that the date of establishing the county in Pinggu should be March of the twelfth year of Emperor Gaozu, which is equivalent to1April 9, 95 BC. Moreover, the third day of March in the calendar at that time corresponds to the same day as the third day of March in the lunar calendar this year.

In April 2002, Pinggu was removed from the county and set up into districts. Nowadays, Pinggu District has become an important node connecting Beijing and Tianjin, and is in an important position in the Bohai Economic Circle. In 2004, Pinggu District achieved a GDP of 6.02 billion yuan and a fiscal revenue of 630 million yuan.
