Demography of Mayotte Island Problem

According to the 2007 census, Mayotte has 186452 residents. In Mayotte, immigrants from Comoros and Madagascar account for more than 30%. Ironically, despite Comoros' claim that Mayotte is a part of it, illegal immigrants from Comoros have been pouring into Mayotte in recent years.

International repercussions

Successive Comorian governments have demanded that France return the island of Mayotte. The Organization of African Unity (the predecessor of the African Union) has repeatedly adopted resolutions reaffirming that Mayotte is the territory of Comoros.
