Why are Shanxi people called "going west to Shanxi"?

Westward Movement is one of the five most famous immigration events in China's modern history.

In a narrow sense, the west exit refers to the outer exit north of the Great Wall, including Shahukou in Shanxi, Fugukou in Shaanxi and Dushikou in Hebei, which is the intersection of people in northern Shaanxi, northern Shaanxi and Hebei.

The west exit starts from the north-central part of Shanxi, the other one goes west, passes through the Shahukou and enters the Mongolian grassland. One goes east, crosses Datong and enters Mongolia via Zhangjiakou.
