Examination qualification
To become an inspector or police officer of the Hong Kong Police Force, you must meet the following conditions:

You must be a permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and have lived in Hong Kong for seven years or more.

Hold a degree from the University of Hong Kong, or equivalent; or
Hold a higher diploma from one of the polytechnics/PolyU/Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education/Polytechnic in Hong Kong, or an accredited associate degree from a higher education institution in Hong Kong, or a diploma from a registered tertiary institution, or equivalent; or
Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (Note 2) has achieved Grade 3 or above in five subjects (Note 1) or equivalent; or
Grade E or above in two subjects of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination, Grade 3 (Note 3)/Grade C or above in the other three subjects of the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, or equivalent; and
Language proficiency requirements
Won the "first prize" in two Chinese papers (Chinese and English) of the comprehensive recruitment examination; or
Grade 2 or above in China Language and English Language in Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, or equivalent; or
Applicants who do not meet the above requirements can still apply, as long as they pass the Chinese and English language tests in the written test of the selection and inspection personnel, they can be exempted from the relevant requirements; and
Can read and write Chinese and speak fluent Cantonese.

Applicants who do not meet the minimum Chinese proficiency requirements can still apply for the position. However, the applicant will be arranged to take the government language examination organized by the civil service examination group and must pass it; and
(iii) Be able to read and write Chinese and speak fluent Cantonese.

When the government appoints civil servants, the results of "qualified and excellent performance" and "qualified and excellent performance (I)" in the applied learning subjects (up to two subjects) in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, as well as the results of other language subjects, will be regarded as equivalent to the results of the third grade subjects in the New Senior High School; "Qualified" scores in applied learning subjects (up to two subjects) and E-level scores in other language subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination will be regarded as equivalent to the second-level scores in NSS subjects.
Relevant subjects may include China language and English.
When the Government employs civil servants, grades C and E of China Language and English Language (Course B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are administratively equivalent to grades 3 and 2 of China Language and English Language in the HKCEE after 2007.

You must have a good physique, because you must pass the physical fitness test in the selection process. Male candidates are at least1.63m tall and weigh 50kg.. Female candidates are at least1.52m tall and weigh 42kg.. You must have good eyesight and pass the preliminary eyesight test without wearing corrective tools.
