How many words does IELTS writing need?
According to the official regulations of IELTS, the small composition is not less than 150 words, and the large composition is not less than 250 words. The number of words in IELTS composition must not be too small, but not too much. According to the statistics of high-scoring compositions, the number of words in most high-scoring small compositions is around 180, while the number of words in big compositions is around 280.
IELTS is a global leader in English assessment, with more than 3.5 million people taking IELTS exams in 140 countries and regions every year. Whether you want to study abroad, emigrate, find a job, or test your English, you can apply for IELTS. The IELTS test consists of four parts: listening, reading, writing and speaking, in which the writing part needs to write two compositions. The number of words required for IELTS composition is as follows:
Task 1 essay: an article officially defined as 150 words requires candidates to analyze, describe or explain a table, graph, histogram or schematic diagram. (20 minutes)
Task2 composition: The official definition is an argumentative essay of 250 words. (40 minutes)
It can be seen that there is no upper limit for the number of words in IELTS writing, but there is a lower limit. The first thing to note is that the number of words must not be too small, but not too much. According to the statistics of high-scoring compositions, the number of words in most high-scoring small compositions is around 180, while the number of words in big compositions is around 280.
Task 1 is missing, which shows that candidates' chart analysis ability needs to be improved, and they need to practice the idea of reading pictures and examining questions more.
The lack of words in Task2 composition shows that the candidates are not open-minded and the arguments cannot be expanded. They need to read more articles that are similar to IELTS writing topics, read IELTS model essays intensively, and master the methods of argument development.
