The population of Baihe county

During the Tang and Song Dynasties, the total population was more than 24,000. At the end of Song Dynasty, social unrest and population began to decrease. By the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty, the population was only 1. 1 10,000.

In the 12th year of Chenghua in the Ming Dynasty (1476), when the county was founded, the total population of Baihe County reached more than 23,000, which increased to more than 26,000 at the end of the Ming Dynasty. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, when the peasant uprising army led by Zhang crossed the Baihe River, the registered population dropped sharply. In the early Qing Dynasty, there were only 10 households in Baihe County, which shows the degree of population decline. During the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty (1662 ~ 1722), there were rewards for reclamation, which encouraged fertility (breeding population, never giving it), and a large number of immigrants moved in, which made the population of Baihe increase rapidly. By the end of Qianlong, the population of Baihe had grown to nearly 40 thousand. In the sixth year of Jiaqing (180 1), the total number of households in Baihe reached 10320, with a total population of 51kloc-0/65438. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, although the society was turbulent, the remote areas were stable, and the natural and economic conditions were less in contact with the outside world. There were still immigrants from Hubei and Guanzhong. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, the population of Baihe County rose to more than 63,000.

10 (192 1), the population of Baihe was close to 70,000. During the Republic of China, the birth rate was high, the mortality rate was high and the population growth was slow. After the outbreak of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, a group of merchants and craftsmen from Guanzhong, Henan and Hubei moved to Baihe, and established the Henan-Hubei-Hebei Association. The population suddenly increased. These relocated businessmen and craftsmen basically stayed, and their second and third generations became Baihe people.

After the second liberation of Baihe, with the needs of the party, government and economic work, a group of cadres who went south (Shanxi, Hebei) and went west (Henan, Hubei) stayed in Baihe. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, a number of graduates from other provinces and counties have been assigned from universities and technical secondary schools to work in Baihe. After 1978, most of them have been repatriated, but 1/5 still settled in Baihe.
