What does dragon dance mean in China?

Legend has it that there was a drought in the Tang Dynasty, and the Dragon King made a mistake and drowned many people in Chang 'an. The Jade Emperor ordered Wei Zhi to supervise and behead the Dragon King. From then on, the Dragon King was haunted and disturbed the palace every night, which frightened Li Shimin, king of the Tang Dynasty. So he asked the ministers for advice, and they thought that he should cross over the Dragon King, so the folk had the custom of playing dragon lanterns on the Lantern Festival. Dragon lanterns are usually made of bamboo, colored paper and cloth. The number of knots is odd, reaching dozens of feet. The leader of the dance holds the dragon's tap, and dozens of people hold the wooden sticks tightly connected to the dragon. Then, the whole dragon runs along the prescribed route and queue in the music. The dragon seems to be alive, and people use this spirit to seek good weather and good harvest.

Dragon dance is a traditional dance of Han nationality which originated in China. In ancient times, dragon and lion dances were one of the major festivals in a year. With the emigration of Chinese to other parts of the world, dragon dance culture has spread all over China, Southeast Asia, Europe, America, Australia and New Zealand, becoming a symbol of China culture.

Dragon dance is a very old folk activity of Han nationality. Dragon dancing dragons are usually placed in the local Longwang Temple. On the day of the Dragon Dance, with flags, gongs, drums and horns as the guide, the dragon body was invited out of the temple, connected to the dragon tail and held a closing ceremony. The dragon naturally became the rain god of crops. The importance of dragons has surpassed that of our ancestors-Emperor Shun, Qi and Hou Ji.
