The birthplace of Huaihe River

The main stream of Huaihe River originates from the northern foot of Taibaiding in Tongbai Mountain, Henan Province.

Huaihe River, called Huaishui in ancient times, is also called "four blasphemies" with Yangtze River, Yellow River and Jishui, and has been listed as one of the seven major rivers in China. Huaihe River originated in Taibaiding Northwest Valley of Tongbai Mountain, Tongbai County, Nanyang City, Henan Province. Its main stream flows through Hubei, Henan, Anhui and Jiangsu provinces, and enters the river at Sanjiang Camp in Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province. The basin spans Hubei, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu and Shandong provinces.

The waste Yellow River is divided into Huaihe River and Yishu Sihe River. The total length of the main stream of Huaihe River is about 1 1,000 kilometers, and the drainage area is about 270,000 square kilometers, of which the Yishusi drainage area is about 80,000 square kilometers.

The Huaihe River originated in Tongbaishan District, Nanyang City, Henan Province, and flows through Hubei, Henan, Anhui and Jiangsu provinces from west to east. Its main stream flows into the Yangtze River at Sanjiang Camp in Yangzhou, Jiangsu, with a total length of about 1000 km.

There are four outlets in the lower reaches of the Huaihe River, namely, the river, the sea channel, the main irrigation canal in northern Jiangsu and the diversion of the Huaihe River into the interpretation. Yishu Sihe River system is located in the northeast of Huaihe River, and consists of yi river River, Shuhe River and Sihe River, all of which originated in Yimeng Mountain area, mainly flowing through Shandong and Jiangsu provinces, and flowing into the sea through Xinshu River and Xinyi Hedong.

2. Li Canal

This river evolved from the Han ditch in history, and after many renovations, it has become a comprehensive utilization channel. It can not only discharge the Huaihe River flood, but also be a part of the main canal of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and the east route of the South-to-North Water Transfer Project. From Yangzhuang to Jiangdu, the total length of the Li Canal is 159km. Embankments are built on both sides of the river, and the west embankment is the east embankment entering the river, which has the task of defending the Huaihe River flood and ensuring the security of He Lixia area.

3. The main irrigation canal in northern Jiangsu

The main irrigation canal in northern Jiangsu is a water conveyance canal for developing irrigation in northern Jiangsu, which is located in the south of the abandoned Yellow River. It is also an artificially excavated river channel where the Huaihe River enters the sea. It starts from Gaoliangjian Sluice at the mouth of Hongze Lake in the west and ends at Biandan Port in the east, with a total length of 168km.

The designed flood discharge capacity is 800 m3/s, which exceeds this standard in actual use. During the flood season of 1954, the main irrigation canal in northern Jiangsu discharged the Huaihe River flood to the sea at the maximum flow rate of1020m3/s.

4, Huaihe River into the sea waterway

It starts from Hull Gate of Hongze Lake in the west and ends at Biandan Port of Binhai County in the east, which is parallel to the main irrigation canal in northern Jiangsu and occupies its north side, with a total length of163.5km.. The designed flood discharge capacity of the first phase project is 3,000 cubic meters per second, and the designed flood discharge capacity of the second phase (prospect) project is 7,000 cubic meters per second.
