Why do most local people in Shenzhen speak Hakka? Few people speak Cantonese.

Shenzhen natives are originally Hakkas. On the contrary, Cantonese speakers are immigrants from other places. Even the name Shenzhen is based on Hakka dialect. In Hakka dialect, the ridge ditch is commonly called "Shenzhen" or "Yong". Shenzhen is named after the dense Shui Ze and the deep ditch beside the village. Shenzhen, formerly known as Baoan County, belongs to Huizhou, where all the Hakkas come from. For example, Longmen County, Boluo County, Huidong County and Huiyang District under Huizhou are all Hakkas. So the Hakka dialect in Shenzhen is exactly the same as that in Huizhou. Until1March, 979, the central government and Guangdong Province decided to change Baoan County into Shenzhen City, which is the time when Shenzhen City was established. 1980 On August 26th, the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC) approved the establishment of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.
