On the morning of March 15, Chinese figure skating men’s singles star Yan Han posted on Weibo to announce his retirement. The Weibo was subsequently deleted by himself.
Yan Han wrote: "I still made a choice, chose to retire, study, make up for my shortcomings, and improve myself. I will also use different ways to contribute to the figure skating project. I am unwilling to give up. And helpless, but we have to face it. I failed everyone’s expectations and hope to understand.”
Yan Han was born in Harbin on March 6, 1996 and just celebrated his 22nd birthday. As a teenager, Yan Han showed outstanding talent and won the youth group championship of the Figure Skating Grand Prix five times and the runner-up in the finals twice. In 2012, Yan Han won the World Youth Championship and Youth Olympic Games men's singles championship, becoming the first Chinese men's singles player.
After being promoted to the adult group in 2013, Yan Han's record was also very good. Won the championship in the 2013 China Cup and seventh place in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, creating the best result in Chinese men's singles history.
On November 8, 2014, during the China Cup men’s singles free skating warm-up, Yan Han and Japanese star Yuzuru Hanyu collided, and both of them spilled blood on the ice rink. Subsequently, both of them persisted in completing the game despite injuries, which moved the audience.
With the rise of Jin Boyang, Yan Han has gradually become the number two figure in China's men's singles, and his status has also been ups and downs. Last year, Yan Han had surgery for a fracture of the anterior edge of his shoulder glenoid. At this year's PyeongChang Winter Olympics, Yan Han finished 23rd.
