As a small border town in Tibet, why did Zhangmu Town "disappear"?

In the past, there was a scenic town called Zhangmu Town on the border between China and Nepal, which was also the largest land port between China and Nepal. It used to be very popular. As a very busy trading port, Zhangmu Port was once full of traffic. There is also a Sino-Nepalese Friendship Bridge in Zhangmu Town, which represents Sino-Nepalese friendship. This bridge was built in 1964, and there is a friendship pavilion at the bridge head for passing people and tourists to stop and rest.

Then some people will ask, why did this once so prosperous town disappear? It turns out that an earth-shattering earthquake of magnitude 8 occurred here in April 2065438+2005, which destroyed it. In this earthquake, not only the casualties were serious, but also 90% houses collapsed. Our government immediately went to the rescue and moved all the residents of Zhangmu Town. This transfer is permanent. Because the earthquake damaged the town particularly badly, the ports in the town were closed and did not open after the earthquake.

Few people can see the once beautiful and prosperous Zhangmu town. Zhangmu Town was permanently closed because of the earthquake. I think the government has also considered all aspects. After the earthquake, Geelong Port, which suffered less losses, quickly resumed use, while Zhangmu Town and Zhangmu Town Port, which suffered more losses, did not need to be rebuilt. So this sudden natural disaster destroyed the once beautiful and prosperous Zhangmu town.

Before the earthquake, there were more than 20 foreign trade and border trade companies in this border town with a permanent population of more than 3,000 people, with a daily floating population of more than 1000 people, radiating Tibet and neighboring provinces and regions internally and Nepal and neighboring countries and regions externally.
