What does Bashu mean?

Bashu refers to Sichuan Basin and its adjacent areas, located in the southwest of China, and generally includes Sichuan, Chongqing and its adjacent areas, namely, central and eastern Sichuan Province, most of Chongqing, southwestern Shaanxi and western Hubei.

Historically, Bashu area, Hanzhong area and Guanzhong area in China were all battlegrounds of ancient feudal dynasties. Its main residents are Han nationality, which is a part of the land of Han nationality.

The geographical scope of "Ba" generally includes today's Hunan, Hubei, southern Shaanxi, Sichuan, Chongqing, Zheng 'ai, Guizhou and other regions, while Dazhou, Bazhong and Chongqing in eastern Sichuan are in the center of their jurisdiction.

The scope of ancient Shu is roughly the Fujiang River basin in the east, a part of the western Sichuan Plateau in the west, the Qinling Mountains at the junction of Qin and Shu in the north and the Sino-Vietnamese border in the south. It can be seen that the territory of Shu is very vast, occupying almost half of the so-called "Huayang" in ancient times, that is, the vast area south of the Qinling Mountains.

Bashu culture:

Sichuan dialect belongs to southwest mandarin. It is the main Chinese popular in Bashu area and surrounding provinces. The current Southwest Mandarin was formed in the great migration movement of "Huguang filling Sichuan" during the Kangxi period of Qing Dynasty, and it was gradually evolved and merged by the Cuban Shu dialect popular in Sichuan before the Ming Dynasty and the immigrant dialects in Huguang and Jiangxi.

Sichuan Opera is lively in form, diverse in tunes, easy to understand, humorous in language, diversified in performances, and some special effects such as changing face, whirling dance and fire breathing have strong artistic effects. Sichuan dulcimer and Sichuan Yin Qing are the main forms of Quyi.

Sichuan cuisine is one of the eight major cuisines in China. It has a wide range of materials, many flavors and strong colors, and is characterized by spicy taste. There are many kinds of snacks in Bashu area, including Lai Tangyuan, Dandan Noodles, Douhua Noodles, Songsao Noodles, Steamed Beef in Steamed Buns, Egg Baked Cake, Spicy Noodles, Hechuan Peach Slices, Hechuan Meat Slices, Jiangjin Rice Sugar, Yunyang Peach Sliced Cake, etc.
