The language of Wu dialect area

Wu dialect is mainly used in southern Jiangsu, China, Shanghai and Zhejiang, as well as some counties in southern Anhui, Shangrao in northeastern Jiangxi and Pucheng County in Fujian. In addition, there are many immigrants who speak Wu language in Hongkong, Taiwan Province Province, Kyushu Island and San Francisco.

Wu dialect is regarded as a dialect of Chinese in China, the second largest Chinese dialect in China besides Mandarin, and regarded as a language in the west, ranking tenth in the world. Wu Yu has an independent language code: ISO639-3 wuu in ISO639-3 system. Wu dialect is known as "soft language of Wu Nong" because of its euphemistic voice.

Wu dialect is completely different from Putonghua, which is based on Mandarin Beijing dialect. It is very different from Mandarin in pronunciation and vocabulary, so it can't communicate with each other and retains more archaic factors of Chinese. [Zhejiang] Lin 'an (except the border between Changbei District of Changhua County and northern Yuqian County), Fuyang, Xiaoshan, Tonglu, Jiande (east of Xiabao and Gantan), Shaoxing, Zhuji, Shengzhou, Xinchang, Shangyu, Yuyao (except Hemudu Town in the east) and Cixi (except Guanhaiwei Town in the east).

(6) Yongjiang has 12 counties and cities with 7.5 million people.

Wenzhou dialect has the base of ancient Baiyue language and ancient Chu (Man Jing) language, so even people in Wu dialect area can't understand Wenzhou dialect in general. The regional dialects in Quzhou and Shangrao are more characteristic of Taihu Lake, which is different from the local dialects in the surrounding rural areas. Jinxiang Town, located between Manhua District and Minnan District, has a population of 1.6 million. He is a descendant of Jinxiang garrison in the early Ming Dynasty and belongs to Wu dialect in Taihu Lake. There are some transitional dialects between two adjacent southern Wu dialects.

[Zhejiang] Lishui: Xuanwu dialect and Wu Huizhou dialect in Jinyun County are distributed in southern Anhui, southwestern Jiangsu and northwest corner of Zhejiang, with splendid history and culture. Xuanwu was hit hard during the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, and the problem of refugees was serious. Therefore, some areas in the south of the Yangtze River do not speak Wu language, and this is only a Wu language cultural county. Huizhou films have always been marked out of Wu dialect because there is no voiced sound (both Wu Xuan and Wu in the north and south of Wu dialect have voiced sound, which is the entry threshold of Wu dialect), but the academic circles have not reached a conclusion so far. Huizhou films are a branch of ancient Wu dialect.

1. Xuanzhou has 24 counties and cities with a population of 5 million.

Some villages in Sanfeng area in northwest China) and Guichi (only in the southern part of Guankou).

Huizhou has 20 counties with a population of 4.5 million.
