Zhelin, pronounced as "only basket" in Chaozhou, is a small seaside town in the southeast of Raoping County, facing Nan 'ao Island across the sea, with beautiful and meticulous beaches and thousands of masts of fishing port scenery. The two island resorts in the west, namely Zhou Xun Island and Western Australia Island, are subtropical islands with lush trees and fine sand. Among them, Western Australia Island is famous for its large number of egrets.

Zhelin Town, Raoping County is adjacent to Huanggang, the county seat, and is surrounded by the sea on three sides. It is a big fishing town. Zhelin Port in the southwest of the town is one of the top ten fishing ports in Guangdong Province. Fishing boats and merchant ships from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and southeast coastal provinces and cities often stop at Zhelin Fishing Port and enter the 324 National Road through Zhelin Highway to conduct business with the mainland. Zhelin Bay is the largest harbor in Raoping, covering an area of 68 square kilometers, equivalent to Shantou Port. Surrounded by seamounts, Hongzhou and Western Australia. There are three exit passages in the south, namely the Great Golden Gate and the East-West Small Golden Gate. Outside the bay, there is a barrier wind and waves in Nan 'ao Island. The water depth in the bay is calm, and it can handle ships of more than 10,000 tons. It is an excellent natural deep-water port in eastern Guangdong.

Zhelin Town is rich in humanities and natural scenery. Because the geographical position is very important, because it controls the main traffic routes on the Fujian-Guangdong Sea, Zhelin Port, as the mouth of the Han River in the long evolution of Chaoshan ancient port, has been recorded in the history books of Tang and Song Dynasties. Its glorious period is called Zhanglin Port, which is one of the starting points of the Maritime Silk Road. Therefore, there is a saying: "There was no Shantou Port, but there was Zhelin Port first." Zhelin Port is one of the earliest deep-water ports for foreign trade and immigration in Chaoshan history, and still leaves many historical sites for people to feel.

Among them, the Zhenfeng Pagoda located at the west foot of the wind-blown ridge in the northeast of the town 1000 meters is a relic of the Yuan Dynasty. Torin, located on the seashore, was injured by frequent waves. So the fishermen built a tower in the windy tuyere all the year round, in order to be calm. The tower is 22 meters high, with base circumference 16 meters, seven floors and eight sides. Each floor of the tower is paved with stone slabs, and visitors can climb the floors along the spiral stone steps in the tower. The tower gallery is also equipped with stone railings, and each floor is equipped with round windows and arches, so visitors can step out of the tower gallery to enjoy the mountain scenery. Now it is a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit, and, like Tianhou Palace, it is the witness of Zhelin Port's marine culture for many years.

Haishang pasture

Zhelin is an important fishing town, where not only the fishery is developed, but also the aquaculture is famous. Fishery farming, that is, cage farming, is not only one of the economic pillars of fishermen, but also a unique landscape in the eyes of tourists who pay attention to humanities because of its spectacular scenes, and is called "sea pasture".

Located in the waters of Dajinmen Waterway in Zhelin Bay, with an area of10.5 million square meters, it is the largest cage culture base in Zhelin Port, consisting of more than 30,000 cages. We rented a boat to leave the dock and cross the middle of this ocean ranch. These rafts are made up of dozens of cages with cabins on them. They are regularly laid on the sea surface, and there are waterways for small boats to pass between rows, which are connected with large waterways for large ships to sail, just like a floating sea city. Farmers build houses on fishing rafts, work at sunrise and rest at sunset, becoming "people at sea". The boat is breezy and the raft is quiet. From time to time, you can see one or two egrets, flying quietly, and the breeze.

Every morning and evening, fishermen make a fire to cook, smoke billows and waves ripple, hundreds of fishing rafts form their own rhythmic lines, and hardworking fishermen become solidified silhouettes at sunrise and sunset. This situation not only attracted countless urbanites to try their hand here, but also made many photographers generously murder many films here.

Egret paradise

Shuangdao Tourist Resort is located in the west of Zhelin Bay, and Zhou Xun Island and Western Australia Island each have bay beaches with a perimeter of 10 kilometers. The seabed slope is gentle, the sand is clean and soft, the environment is beautiful, the trees are lush, and the tree coverage rate is over 90%. Wild animals such as yellow-billed egrets, seagulls, hairy chickens, partridges and owls often inhabit. In spring and summer, every evening, when the sun sets, there is a magnificent scene of "egrets returning to their nests" on the island of Western Australia: egrets fly in droves from a distance to Weiyong Mountain in the northwest corner of the island, which looks like snow-white camellia from a distance. According to a rough estimate, there are no fewer than tens of thousands of egrets living on the island of Western Australia, which has become a striking "egret paradise".

After enjoying a sumptuous seafood dinner in Zhelin Port Restaurant, the boss called a fishing boat for us and took us to visit this prestigious egret paradise and beautiful double islands. Since 1998, Western Australia Island has become an ideal paradise for egrets to nest, breed and brood. Because there is a "sea pasture" in Zhelin Bay, these cages in the surrounding waters provide an inexhaustible "granary meat warehouse" for egrets who like to look for small fish and shrimp, which greatly facilitates their life and reproduction.
