What are the origins and reasons for the existence of the folk culture of Conghua's "Color-throwing Gate", and what are the countermeasures to protect it?

This is a unique New Year folk custom in Conghua, Guangdong. This custom is related to immigrants from past dynasties. "Deng" and "Ding" are homophonic. In the past, before the first Lantern Festival after giving birth to a boy, farm families would go to the village ancestral hall or social altar to hang a lantern, commonly known as "hanging up the lantern." It means "adding children". When lighting up the lanterns, there is a custom of "throwing colorful doors". The so-called "color door" is a large flower basket filled with fireworks and firecrackers. At nightfall (it is said to be around eight o'clock in the evening), the villagers gathered in front of the Wuyue Hall. After offering flowers and candles in the ancestral hall, the village elders gave an order, and the villagers in turn threw small packets of lit firecrackers to the high-hanging temple. Big flower basket, whoever ignites the big flower basket first will win the lottery! The winner means that he is the wisest one in the village and gets the braised pork as a sacrifice to his ancestors! ! The direction in which the "flying squirrel" (i.e. bat, commonly known as a kind of fireworks rocket) flies from the colorful gate means that the place in that direction will have better weather, bumper crops and good luck in the coming year!

According to the Conghua Municipal Culture Department, Conghua’s “Color-Throwing Gate” has been included in the project to declare “intangible cultural heritage”.
