Historical evolution
Hunyuan has a long history. Human beings have thrived as early as the Neolithic Age. It is one of the earliest human development areas in my country.
It belonged to Jizhou during the Xia and Shang Dynasties, Bingzhou during the Western Zhou Dynasty, and Daiguo during the Spring and Autumn Period. During the Northern Wei Dynasty, it took advantage of the capital Datong to form the interior of the capital. In the Sui Dynasty, it was first called Hunyuan, and in the Tang Dynasty, it was called Hunyuan. County and Fanzhi County both belong to Yanmen County. (The former governance of Guo County was located at Mazhuang, twenty miles west of today's Hunyuan County, and the former governance of Fanzhi County was located twenty miles north of today's Hunyuan County.)
Both counties were abolished at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, and the Jin Dynasty restored them The two counties were all included in the Dai Dynasty in the fifth year of Yongjia (311).
The Northern Wei Dynasty changed Guo County to Guoshan County, and the Eastern Wei Dynasty changed it to Fanzhi County in the second year of Tianping (535). In the same year, Fanzhi County was moved to the east of present-day Fanzhi County. Later Zhou Dynasty abolished Guoshan County.
In the Sui Dynasty, it was Yunnei County, in the Tang Dynasty, it was Yunzhong County, and later it was divided into Hunyuan County. Belongs to Yingzhou.
During the Five Dynasties and the Jin Dynasty, the county entered the Liao Dynasty with Suizhou and was still Hunyuan County. In the second year of Jinzhen Dynasty (1214), Hunyuan Prefecture was established in the county. In the early Yuan Dynasty, Hunyuan County was changed to Hengyin County.
In the fourth year of the Yuan Dynasty (1267), it was merged into Hunyuan Prefecture and belonged to Datong Road.
In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was Hunyuan Prefecture and both belonged to Datong Prefecture.
In May of the first year of the Republic of China, it was changed to Hunyuan County and later belonged to Yanmen Road.
During the Anti-Japanese War, the mountainous areas in the north and south of the county were our base areas and belonged to the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Border Region. In 1937, it belonged to the Office of the First Administrative Inspectorate of Shanxi Province. In 1939, it belonged to the Chanan Yanbei Office of the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Border Region Government. From 1940 to 1945, it belonged to the second, fifth and first special offices of the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Border Region Government.
The whole county was liberated in 1945.
In 1947, it belonged to the Yanbei Administration of Chahar Province.
Returned to Shanxi Province in 1952. It belongs to the Yanbei Administrative Office of Shanxi Province, and later changed to the Shanxi Northern Shanxi Administrative Office and the Yanbei Regional Administrative Office of Shanxi Province.
In 1993, Yanbei Prefecture merged with Datong City and became a county under the jurisdiction of Datong City.
