Ask for the requirements and benefits of being a soldier in the United States
1. Exercise your will
Being a soldier can temper one's will. Weak-willed people, after hard training, will be shaped into iron sweat stains, which can completely change a person's leisure quality in a short time and hate work.
keep fit
As a soldier, there are many military training programs and great physical training requirements. Many people who were thin or fat before enlisting in the army can practice one muscle and shape eight abdominal muscles in the military camp.
3. Learn to cooperate
After joining the army, people with weak team consciousness will soon cultivate a very strict team consciousness, and will also strengthen the concept of observing discipline, and they will also become quick and neat in doing things, without dragging their feet and with higher execution.
make friends
Soldiers' companions are lifelong companions, and the deep friendship between comrades-in-arms is a very valuable asset in life, which is worth remembering and maintaining in a long life.
There are many kinds of subsidies.
There are also many kinds of subsidies for American soldiers, among which the combat subsidy is higher. The basic monthly subsidy for serving in a war zone is $225, the service in the front line is $ kloc-0/00, the separation from family is $250, and the extra spiritual subsidy is $4 every day. Because there is no time and place to spend money in wartime, the wages of American soldiers will be transferred to special accounts, and the income below $65,438+$0,000 in wartime will receive an extra interest income of 10%, which is more than five times the interest of ordinary bank deposits. The flight allowance is 150-840 USD. The monthly subsidy for submarine service is US$ 75-425, the monthly subsidy for skydiving is US$ 150-250, and there are also subsidies for diving and holiday duty. There will also be a child-rearing subsidy of $ 160-276. Clothing subsidies average $ 543- 1793. The standard of travel allowance is also very high, up to $55 per day in the United States, plus $27 in food allowance. The subsidy for going abroad depends not only on the country you go to, but also on the means of transportation you take. The subsidy for going abroad is $0.55 per mile for cars, $0.24 per mile for airplanes and $9 1- 109 for length of military service.
6. Insurance is expensive
The lives of American soldiers are very precious, and the insurance premium is $500,000. Ordinary people need to pay 140 dollars a month to insure whole life insurance with 500,000 dollars, but the premium that soldiers should pay is less than15 of this figure. The medical security level of American soldiers is relatively high. Soldiers and veterans at any level are entitled to lifelong medical insurance. The expenses are paid by the state budget, including not only medicines or hospitalization, but also expensive surgery and even cosmetic surgery, although medical care and medicines in the United States are quite expensive. If the military doctor can't do anything, the soldiers can go to the local specialized hospital. The Ministry of National Defense not only pays related medical expenses, but also provides medical subsidies, including family accompanying expenses and minor child support.
7. A generous pension
American soldiers' pensions are quite generous, usually limited to more than 20 years and 6-20 years in length of military service. The specific standard depends on the rank and length of military service. They will retire after serving for 6-20 years. The annual salary of retired soldiers is $65,438+03,390-47,920, and that of chief officers is $65,438+07,993-65,438+006,865,438. Length of military service who has completed 20 years of service can get 50% of the monthly basic salary after retirement, and length of military service can get 2.5% for each additional year. If you have served for 40 years, you can enjoy full salary retirement.
Requirements are:
(1) identity
Perhaps this is what China people are most concerned about. I want to emphasize once again that there is no exception to the identity condition. Soldiers must have at least a green card (permanent resident card), and officers must have citizens. The army won't help you apply for a green card, but if you join the army with a green card, the immigration office can help you become a citizen immediately. Applicants must live in the United States, and there is no problem of "hostile country" mentioned above.
One of the great disadvantages of joining the army with a green card is that you can't apply for security level, so you can't apply for cutting-edge technology, communication or information services. How to get a green card has nothing to do with this article, so don't say it, just think it over yourself.
(2) Age
The lower limit of all services is 18 years old. 17 years old if parents agree.
At present, the upper age limit of regular service soldiers is different in different services:
Army: 35 Air Force: 27 Navy: 34 Marine Corps: 28 Coast Guard: 27
This upper limit will change at any time according to the demand, basically once every few years. The upper age limit of the reserve is about 40 years old. The upper limit of an officer's age is between 30 and 35. I won't say this one by one.
The most common age exemption is that veterans apply for enlistment again. Generally, the upper age limit can be pushed up by two years, and some can be pushed up by four years. If you have a high level of health and education, you can basically get a two-year age exemption. Other exceptions, such as pilots and special forces, are generally 26 years old. There is basically no upper age limit for military doctors (referring to officers with medical doctor degrees, not to be confused with military doctors) to join the army.
(3) Children
The army has regulations to ensure that soldiers' children have enough resources to lead a normal life. The Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard require all applicants with children to undergo a property survey. The army and navy require applicants with more than one child to undergo a property survey. As long as there are no excessive debts and too many children, one child will be exempted in the end.
(4) Education
Let's talk about soldiers first. The minimum requirement for applying to join the army is to have a high school diploma recognized by the United States, or GED certification, or to get more than 50 points (out of 99 points) in the ASVAB exam. ASVAB is mainly English and math, and it is not very difficult. Review books are also sold in many places in the United States, so I won't say much. Pay attention to the minimum conditions mentioned above. The average score of ASVAB varies from service to service, and the average score of Marine Corps and Army is generally low, around 35-40. The navy and coast guard are between 60 and 70; The average air force is over 70. In addition, the ASVAB score also determines the arms you can choose, and the arms involved in engineering or communication have higher requirements for ASVAB. For example, the ASVAB admission line of the Naval Nuclear Corps is 92 points. Of course, bringing a green card to join the army is not considered, because you can't apply for a security level. )
The applicant must have a bachelor's degree. There are two aspects to the specific score, one is to look at the major and the other is to look at the grade point. It is best to have a major that matches the job you are applying for, and most of the work in the army is science and engineering. Of course, you can't apply for a diplomat as a mechanical major. In recent years, because the economy is not particularly good, many people apply for military officers, and the requirements of GPA are getting higher and higher. The GPA required for each service and job is different. Please go to the admissions office for details. In the navy, the average GPA of liberal arts graduates applying for military officers is 3.5, and that of science and engineering is 3.0.
Applicants who are generally not particularly good at grade points can also choose to take the exam as officers. The name of this test is different in each service, but the content is similar, which is mainly divided into these categories: English words, English understanding, mathematics, logic, physics, machinery and aviation. If this score is good, it can make up for the lack of GPA. The army exam is called AFAST, the air force is called AFOQT, and the navy, marine corps and guard are all called ASTB.
(5) body
Because of different diseases, this one is also the most complicated and exempted. So I suggest that if there is no serious illness, I might as well make an appointment for medical treatment. The doctor will tell you clearly which ones can be exempted and which ones can't. Remember during the physical examination: as long as you have never heard of the disease, you have never had it. In addition, it is emphasized that this is a general physical examination. If you are a shy person, the army is not for you.
Height: male soldiers should be between 1.52 and 1.98, and female soldiers should be between 1.47 and 1.83.
Maybe people are more concerned about physical condition. Simply put, the Marine Corps has the highest requirement for physical fitness, followed by the Army, Naval Air Force and Coast Guard. Because physical fitness is relatively easy to change, there are actually no hard and fast indicators when recruiting. Whether you are overweight or can't run long distances, as long as you are willing to work hard, the admissions office is willing to spend several months to help you adjust your physique. I once came into contact with a Chinese who joined the navy in new york, weighing from 300 kg to 200 kg in one year. The physical fitness test and weight requirements of each service are different, but generally speaking, as long as your body is relatively symmetrical, there will be no major problems when applying. Of course, if you are only satisfied with symmetry, recruits will be very uncomfortable during training. For male soldiers in their early twenties, if they can do the following three things, there will be no big physical problems in recruit training.
Do 60 sit-ups in two minutes.
Do 50 push-ups in two minutes
You can run three miles without interruption.
(The Marine Corps requires pull-ups, and it is best to do 2-3 before enlisting. Note that the back of your hand should face your face and your chin should be above the bar. )
(six) drug abuse, alcoholism and crime
People who are addicted to drugs and alcohol, illegally selling drugs or have a history of felony are never allowed to join the army. ("Felony history" is not established, as long as it is prosecuted. )
Other minor drug abuse, alcoholism or misdemeanor need to apply for exemption. If the military thinks that you have these problems and there has been no similar thing in the past few years, they will be exempted from these illegal problems.
The FBI will also conduct a background check on each applicant and reject anyone who has close ties with hostile groups, violent groups or foreign political parties. Officers are much stricter than soldiers when investigating illegal activities, because officers must first obtain the highest secret level.
(7) Basic process
First of all, emphasize that before signing a contract with the army, the applicant has no legal obligation to join the army, and you can choose to quit at any time. But once you sign a contract with the army, you have an obligation to fulfill it. Breach of contract may lead to dishonorable dismissal, military or criminal offence.
Recruited soldiers:
1. Going to the conscription office showed the willingness to be a soldier. They will collect some basic information about you, such as age, study, height and weight, general medical history and so on. These materials are not used to judge whether you are accepted, but to let the recruiters know whether you are worth their time to submit an application.
2. If your basic conditions are similar, the Admissions Office will arrange ASVAB and physical examination. If a certain condition is too bad, the admissions office will have several choices, never admit, postpone the application and postpone the admission. It's easy to never admit it. Your problem is too serious to join the army. Delaying the application means that your problem is very serious, and now your application is likely to be rejected. The admissions office suggests that you apply again in a few years. But the delay in admission is usually a minor problem, such as temporary illness or physical problems. The army will delay you for several months until your problem is solved.
You can choose arms after ASVAB and physical examination. The number of arms you can choose varies according to your comprehensive conditions. If there is no work you want to do at this time, you can still quit. If you choose arms, you must sign a contract with the US military and become a real US military recruit.
4. Generally, after signing the contract, there will be a waiting time, and the delayed entry project will arrange for you to go to recruitment training. This time varies from two weeks to several months depending on the service. During this period, you are still a recruit of the US military, so you should report to the conscription office regularly and take part in physical training. In case of major events, such as moving, going abroad, injury, crime, etc. You should inform the admissions office as soon as possible.
5. During DEP, try to know more about the common sense and rules of the army. Being able to identify ranks and arms, recite the rules of military training and sing some "patriotic songs" can make you feel much better in the training of recruits. In addition, you should know that the recruiter's task is not to throw you into the recruit training, even if it is over. Only through recruitment training can you be regarded as a recruiter. Therefore, DEP is also the best time to communicate with recruiters, learn more about the real situation of the troops and even establish some personal relationships, because your recruiters are generally non-commissioned officers. Maybe you will become their colleague in three or five years.
Applicant officer:
There are three main ways for the United States to become an officer: military schools, national defense students and officer training schools. I will only briefly talk about the first two, because I don't know much about them.
There are three military schools in the United States, including the Marine Corps and the Coast Guard. There is not much difference between applying for military school after graduating from high school and applying for other universities. Submit your high school grades, college entrance examination results, awards and letters of recommendation, and then wait for the results. The only difference is that you must be an American citizen to apply for a military school, and you must meet the physical standards. The reason is obvious. Military schools are completely militarized, and the requirements for discipline and grades are much stricter than those of ordinary universities. Students who have not signed a contract with the army before entering school need not join the army after graduation. But this is a minority after all, and the vast majority of military school graduates choose to join the army. The tradition of military schools is that only the only cadet commander at the annual level can be directly appointed as a lieutenant. Other military school students, national defense students and officers' training school students can only be appointed by second lieutenants.
National Defense Students (ROTC) simply means that college students sign a contract with the army and agree to join the army for several years after graduation in exchange for all tuition fees and part of military training. More formal universities in the United States basically have at least one national defense student institution. This contract is usually signed between graduation from high school and sophomore year. National defense students should participate in regular military training and study every week, and participate in military summer camp in summer vacation, with GPA maintained at 3.0. In terms of rank, national defense students and military academy students are all officers and students, only higher than recruits and lower than all other active officers and soldiers.
The last officer training school (OCS or OTS) is for college graduates. Servicemen and ordinary people apply for military officers through this channel. If you are admitted, you only need to participate in military training for about 3 months, and you can become a US military officer. Because the applicants in this channel are more complicated, the procedures are more troublesome and the admission rate is very low. The following is the basic application process for this channel:
1. An officer's application must go to a special department, and the general recruitment office cannot handle it. But all recruitment offices will have an official to apply for contact. This person will arrange your first interview. The first interview is actually similar to being a soldier. It's also about collecting basic information and making an appointment for a physical examination. According to your average score, you may be advised to take the officer's exam. Unlike soldiers, you need to apply for enlistment at the first interview. Because the review time of officers in different arms of the US military is different, there are only a few review meetings a year. Your application must be submitted two months before the judging meeting.
There are a series of things to do after the first interview:
Physical examination: same as soldiers. Height and weight measurement must be qualified.
Officer exam: if your GPA is particularly awesome, you don't have to take this exam.
Petition: Answer a question: "There are so many things in the world that you can't do well. Why do you have to be a US military officer? "
Letter of recommendation: at least three letters, the higher the level of military and political field in the United States, the better, and others such as professors, bosses and colleagues are also acceptable.
Confidentiality level: prepare the places you have been, the things you have done and the relevant contacts in the past 10- 15. Immediate family members should also investigate the past 10 years.
Interview: General school officials will have at least one interview, and some special arms need multiple interviews.
In this process, I have to meet my contacts many times and fill out piles of forms.
After all these things are done, you can hand over the bag to the audit meeting. The application package cannot be changed as long as it is handed in. So there will be nothing to do during this period, so keep healthy, don't get sick, don't make mistakes and wait for the result. This is usually the longest months.
The contact will call you as soon as the result comes out. If it fails, you can try again at the next audit. I know an air force second lieutenant who applied for the review meeting five times in three consecutive years and was finally admitted as a pilot. If you are admitted, it will be a long wait. Mainly wait for your security level to be issued, and then arrange the date of the officer training school. Compared with the training of recruits, the officer training school has similar physical requirements, stricter rules, greater mental stress, and leadership training takes some time.
Finally, it is mentioned that the US military has a "direct appointment" method. The president has the right to directly appoint any junior officer or school officer to those in urgent need of the army. This rule is actually a tradition hundreds of years ago. At that time, there were very few regular troops maintained by the US military. Only when there is a war, the rich or big landlords are appointed to lead troops to fight. At present, this approach is limited to applicants with a doctorate in medicine or a doctorate in law. These people can be directly appointed as captains if they apply for military doctors or military prosecutors. Maybe a person you are more familiar with is Qian Xuesen. He was appointed as a colonel in the United States, which is the highest appointment that the president of the United States can give him through this channel.
