Hanyuan generally refers to Hanyuan County, which is located in the county under the jurisdiction of Ya 'an City, Sichuan Province, south of the west of Sichuan Province, and its geographical coordinates are between East longitude10216'-10300'.

Hanyuan County, an ancient capital, belongs to Shu State. In the fifth year of Shen Liang's reign (3 16 BC), Shu County was established in Qin Dynasty, which was under the jurisdiction of Shu County. In the fourth year of Sui Renshou (604), Hanyuan County was established in Jiuxiang Town under the name of Hanyuan. In the seventh year of Yongzheng in Qing Dynasty (1729), it was renamed Qingxi County. In the third year of the Republic of China (19 14), Qingxi County was renamed Hanyuan County because it had the same name and homonym as Qingxi County in Guizhou Province.

Hanyuan is located on both sides of the middle reaches of the Dadu River, which is the Panxi Valley between the Sichuan Basin and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Located at the eastern edge of the northern section of Hengduan Mountains, the terrain is mainly mountainous, with the highest elevation of 402 1m and the lowest elevation of 550m in Ma 'anshan, Fuxiang Township. Located at the intersection of Baixionggou and Dadu River in Li Yong Township, the maximum relative height difference is 3471m.

The northeast edge is Daxiangling, the southern branch of Qionglai Mountain, the northwest edge is Feiyue Ridge, and the south is Daliangshan Group Peak. Dadu River runs through the east and west, and Liusha River runs through the north and south, forming a terrain surrounded by high mountains and low valleys in the middle.

Hanyuan County is dominated by mountains, with complex and diverse topography, high terrain in the northwest and low terrain in the southeast, with large relative height difference.
